Forums - Sony - About the Last of Us

I just finished it. Loved every single second of the story. Great stuff!

But..

I didnt particularly enjoy the gameplay, I just wanted to go on to next cutscene to see what happend next. I would probably enjoy a movie of the game much more. I know this is probably blasphemy around here.. but did anyone else feel the same? or am I alone in all of this?

I can't believe I'm actually defending The Last of Us

But I thought the gameplay was excellent. The mixture of stealth action, third-person shooting, and on-the-fly crafting was super impressive to me.

The storytelling was spectacular - I mean really transcendent - but the gameplay was great too. Naughty Dog has a way of sacrificing gameplay for scripted sequences and storytelling in Uncharted, but the studio didn't fall into that trap this time around. Rarely did I feel like I was being led somewhere, apart from the deer hunt sequence. More often I felt like I was given a set of tools and asked to improvise to come out on top - and that, to me, is what great gameplay is.

The gameplay is excellent and a joy to play. Maybe a little too slow placed for your liking?

Agreed with all of this Last of Us just had amazing everything as far as I'm concerned. Second only to the ME series IMO.

I really liked the gameplay except some sections, like the end, where it felt more like a barrage of enemies, just got me out of the experience but overall I found the stealth and the way to deal with zombies to be one of the best in the genre, obviously it might not be your cup of tea but that does proof the game rocks.

If you don't like the gameplay but you finish the game AND enjoyed it, wow

The gameplay was perfect for me and yes,to say a movie could be better is blasphemy

I dont think the gameplay is bad or anything.. I just dont think it holds up to the fantastic story, storytelling, characters and atmosphere of the game which is among the best I have ever been a part of.

I didnt really like the stealth parts which probably is why it took me so long time to actually complete the game.

Not with TLOU, but I did feel the same way with Uncharted 4.

I felt that way in Last of Us and Uncharted 2/what I played of 3. It seems to be a thing with Naughty Dog games lately. Maybe U4 will be the same way, idk.

Too linear for me, too predictable with the level design. AI was laughably bad, especially in stealth segments. The best things about the game were the narrative (great), setting (game world, backstories and lore scattered around were amazing), and MP imho. Before they ruined it with pay2win, anyway.

I absolutely loved the gameplay and the story in TLOU and all naughty dog games. No game is for everyone but at least you loved the story!
