Forums - Microsoft - XB1 S is a Better Value than a $400 PC

Funny how these comparisons NEVER include the annual fees you HAVE TO pay to play online. Gaming for 4 years on either console will cost you 200 dollars. I can easily spend those 200 dollars on games I actually want.

No it's not. Maybe PCs have a bigger entry fee, but PC is cheaper and much better (IMO) overall. Free online gaming, HUGE backlog, emulators, cheap games and now even the Microsoft exclusives are available if that was a reason to buy a Xbox. Upgrading a PC is also cheaper than buying a new console and all the games again (remasters).

You know you dont have to play online all the time, if you do it like me and only subscribe to PS+ when ever you want to play Multiplayer you can save a lot of money. And there all these cheaper deals from different countries.

Who says you have to buy remasters? you can buy the older versions for 3 bucks like the Uncharted games or Resident Evil 5 and 6 on PS3.

You only need to own the PS2, PS3 and 4 in order to play all PlayStation games, no emulation needed.

How is backlog an argument? I have a huge backlock of PS games whats your point?

How is upgrading your PC cheaper, this Xbox S alone has a 4K blueray player these things cost 400-500$ alone.

The new RX 480 graphicscard costs 300€, thats a graphicscard that cost as much as a console and it was hyped to be the entry level card for 1080p 60fps.

Rumors say the PS4 Neo will have the same preformance and graphicscard and wont cost more than 400$ and €. PC gaming isnt affordable anymore espacially in europe.

Thoughts?

I think value is subjective but I just have to point out that the $90 you suggested above is an annual fee, so if you want online or those games after a year you need to pay again and again every year.

The other point is while I don't think 900p @ 30fps is terrible, I'd rather just play most things at 1080@60.

I think you pay more upfront with PC gaming, but it evens out with all the extra charges you have to pay with consoles over time.

Yes, you would need to pay the $90 a year but getting 60+ games for that price is a great deal. Also if someone doesn't want to pay the games they got from the last year are still playable.

It's understandable that you would like to play at a higher resolution and better fps.

In the future you might only need a PS4.

Also if someone doesn't want to pay the games they got from the last year are still playable. I do not understand that part. If you don't continue to pay for the services (on the xbox one, or playstation) you don't get to play the games that came from that service.

On Xbox live you do.

Ah, I've never actually used Xbox gold, maybe it's different from how PS+ used to be? When I was a PS+ subscriber (This was a couple of years ago) the games got deactivated if you did not renew the subscription

On 360, not on Xbone.

If you are only interested in gaming, maybe (just maybe) an XboxOne is better value, in the short term.

But, why are you comparing a PC from today to an XboxOne S from the future? By next year, AMD will have an APU that's as powerful as the xboxOne, making the PC just as fast as the console, for about the same price, with free online and capable of playing not only MSoft games but also games from Steam, Origin, U-Play, GOG, etc. And on top of that, you'll be able to add a graphics card in a couple of years to improve its capabilities into something like the Scorpio, something that you won't be able to do with the console.

Value is a very subjective term.

By the time the AMD APU launches the xbox one will be cheaper than it is now.  Free Online is a plus for PC but the amount of games you get from paying $60 a year is overwhelming. The Xbox One and steam have many of the same games. Origin and EA Access are basically the same but EA Acess has more console exclusive games. U-Play is just Ubisoft games that are also on Xbox One. I'm not familiar with GOG so i cant comment on that. Microsoft are showing that the Xbox One S will have support for many more years and it will be cheaper in the Future to upgrade to a Scorpio when the next upgradable Scorpio comes out.

It's you who are comparing a PC with the XboxOne S that won't launch until next year. I'm just using your comparison.

$60 will give you lots of games on PC too, you just have to take advantage of the sales that PC gamers enjoy several times each year (in the last 12 months Steam has had 4: Halloween, Winter, Chinesse new year and Summer. GOG has had almost the same).

Xbox One S will have many more years of support... just like the original XboxOne. Don't take PR statements as a fact or an absolute truth. And your "upgrade" to Scorpio consists of buying the new console at whatever it costs. With a PC, you'll only have to buy a graphics card.

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

That changed with xbox one. PS4 requires you to pay for online, and XB1 now locks all games behind the pay wall.

They basically copied each other.

Are you sure i haven't ran out of gold on xbox one but it should be the same as on the 360.

The alienware alpha is on par with an xbox one, and can often be found for 400 dollars. Even comes with a controller. Not having to pay for xbox live means you can pocket the money or spend it on games you actually want to play. 60 dollars goes a long way on a steam sale or a key reseller site like g2a

The Xbox One S launches next month.

Console have weekly sales and the occasional big summer, winter, spring, fall sales.
