I'm waiting to play the game before I say it's a TLOU rip-off or not a hack 'n slash or whatever. I could show you gameplay from Ratchet & Clank that'd make it look like a stealth game or a flight combat shooter, that doesn't mean it is.

I didnt say it was a TLoU ripoff nor am I discrediting the game.

All I said its similar to TLoU as a action adventure game with its PoV and progression as showcased in "GAMEPLAY Trailer" as Sony listed it on their youtube channel.

Did the Ratchet and Clank trailers showcased those specific parts when/before they were released? Were they the main highlights during reveals?

The PoV and progression doesn't make it not be a hack and slash...

And yes, the Ratchet & Clank trailers showcased them, and there was substantially more of those "unnormal" parts in the gameplay trailer than there was of the normal gameplay.

I'm just telling you to wait til you play the game before you say that it can't be a hack 'n slash.

It won't sell over a million.

They're not hack and slash games, so no.

As of the 4th June this year, Bayo has sold 1 million, might want to adjust the OP unless you want to raise the bar even further and say it hasn't sold 5 mil to be successful or something.

Also looking at Capcom's hack n' slash titles has Monster Hunter (A form, read, form of hack n' slash) has the latest one selling at 4.1m.

The genre itself is nowhere near as dormant/dead as say the RTS genre is, but I doubt it needs a Sony exclusive to bring it back from where it is, I don't know why it can only be a Sony ip at that since we will have other hack n' slash games in the future that can also turn out decent.

Also as others have already pointed out, GoW isn't primarily defiend as a hack n' slash game.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Bayo is known to be substantially overtracked though. Also, I don't get the tone in the last paragraph ("I doubt it needs a Sony exclusive to bring it back from where it is, I don't know why it can only be a Sony ip") because the OP mentioned For Honor, a multiplat Ubisoft IP.

Well until it's finally resolved it is what it is. Also you don't have to get the tone or attach one because there isn't really one there to begin with. I didn't mention For Honor since that is a hack n' slash game that's also multiplat.

It's hard to imagine a hack n' slash ever selling as well as God of War III, it actually sold well over 6 million on PS3. Was 5.2m as of May 2012 and then had the Saga & Omega collections plus the budget essentials edition release. All SKUs combine it's probably around 6.5m LTD.

There's a lot of debate about what genre the new God of War falls under, I don't want to make any calls at the moment, it looks so different but until I play it myself I'm not going to make any claims.

If it does turn out to be a hack n' slash then you can probably expect it to inspire a resurgence of the genre with developers inspired by the new style.

Neither of those games  are hack'n slash. The way I've always understood it, hack'n slash is the same genre as beat'em up, just with swords. They're both a subgenre of action/adventure, with a greater focus on combat, combos, finesse, and mowing down countless enemies.. Usually with a high number of attacks that can be combined in a variety of unique ways for greater combos and bonuses. Basically, think fighting game meets  action adventure, and you pretty much get the picture.

The new GoW, and For Honor, have more in common with Zelda and Souls than traditional hack'n slash. For Honor adds a layer of depth to the guarding and parrying system, while forgoing dodging, with a primar focus on 1v1. The footage we've seen of GoW4's basoc combat so far looks remarkably like TLOU, and I don't just mean the camera. Mash attack button over and over, and then Kratos performs a brutal finsher. There is rolling, though, and I'm sure there will be more exciting moves later in the game. Also, here's hoping for a hard mode where enemies actially parry your attacks.

Shadow of Mordor iz closer to a hack'n slash than GoW4 and For Honor.
