Forums - Gaming - How does everyone feel about Final Fantasy XV's "Wait mode"

They only had Turn Based because they didn't have the tech to do otherwise,

but I guess it's good they're giving people options.

Legend of Zelda which came out a year before the first FF game, you wandered around in an environment and hit enemies freely, why not do something like that? The reason they made turn based is because they wanted turn based, that excuse is wearing thin on me. It established the series and kept that turned based to make it one of the biggest franchises in gaming. Even 12 and 13 had their variations of the tradition ATB but tried to adapt to more open and free gameplay. This is the first game without it completely.

On topic, the wait mode seems like it's there because fights could get hectic with lost of enemies, I just hope the fights are drawn out like they look, they seemed too long for just generic fights, most FF games before had easy enemies which are basically one hits to level up. Many of the enemies should be like this.

Hmm, pie.

FFVII Pushed the envelope in terms of tech. They might have been able to do free flowing action but not in a way that would've done justice to the game.

PS4 can play games in 4K. But it'd run at 5fps, so you don't do it.

I never said you wernt going to buy it, because of course you will. No doubt about it. That goes for every Final Fantasy fan. You clearly state its the "only" thing classic... thats pretty direct, and trying to downplay monsters taking their original incarnation when asserting that nothing else resembles classic out of wait mode is not a smart avenue.  Everything about FF15 classic minus its battle system.

Well, to me, that's how I feel about the game. I really wouldn't even consider comaring FF1-10 to this game at all. Monster designs, maybe. Battle system, sure but not much else and apparently I'm not alone. If I were to play Final Fantasy 6 and 15, I'd probably never say "this game reminds me of Final Fantasy 15". They don't have the same style as they used to have. That's been known since FFXI onward. After Sakaguchi left.

Nomura even acknowledged the fact that everyone has their idea of what Final Fantasy is and what it means to them. You have yours, and I've got mine.

Let me tell you something.

You made the statement that wait mode is the only thing that resembles the classics. I have listed several elements of the classics that have made their way into to XV. That makes you wrong. I dont care that your not alone, I dont care that Nomura gave you blanket that you think your going hide under. What we are debating is not a matter of opinion or taste but a matter of "fact" and  factually your wrong. Absolutely wrong.

What makes you even blah, is that you have done nothing to defend your point. There is nothing un Final Fantasy about XV minus that battle system, which is coming along fine.

Sakaguchi left after Final Fantasy X, he was in the same position in the development of Final Fantasy X that he was in the other games.

Looks more like a help mode than a layer of strategic depth.

Also, damn, all that banter is going to get annoying after hearing it hundreds of times. I wonder if you can turn it off?

Combat looks tedious and shallow with a lot of running around for nothing. I lose interest with every video I watch.

What pokoko said. I've yet to play many of the recent Final Fantasy games, so I've been spared the major shifts in gameplay, but I know what I like. And I don't like the look of this.

The graphics are phenomenal. No doubt. But everything else looks discouraging :(

So it allows you to pick your targets that you're gonna teleport to or use other combat abilities? I'm fine with that. It's similar to how you can change potions and signs in the witcher 3 or use abilities in dragon age. I think many people will use it (in spite of what they say) because combat seems very fast pace especially those aerial battles/summon fights.

I don't really like it much. It's not a turn-based option, but rather, a disruptive mechanic that aids those who can't handle the real-time action.

^This. It's not a turn based option, so I'm not really sure who this appeals to.

Who does Tales appeal to? How about Star Ocean? .Hack? Kingdom Hearts? Dark Cloud?

Let me tell you something sir,

You can't factualize opinions. You can't find in any database or online information depository where what you say is true and should be taken as fact. To me, this is NOTHING like classic Final Fantasy and that's MY opinion. I don't see why you can't take that at face value and move on with you life. Why is everything about "right and wrong"? Final Fantasy as a whole is a very opinionated series. If I think this game is nothing like Classic FF then that's what I think. Why would you ask how people feel about Wait mode if you weren't expecting opinions to be had? Like..what? It's not even turn based for one, the characters offler little to no diversity from what I've seen in terms of design, there's freaking flying cars not airships. Not that I have anything agains the MODERNIZED choices, but they aren't reminiscent of CLASSIC final fantasy to ME.
