The Wii U will sell very well throughout 2013 no matter if it's garbage or not.

Oh wait...

This kind of tells us the OPs true agenda. This is a total hate thread. Just another hater unfortunately.

The (unlikely) next to the only optimistic outlook for Nintendo wasn't evidence enough that this dude is trolling? lol

i mean,.. i guess that could be true. new leadership certainly may not share the same vision of nintendo's future as the old leadership. i don't see any supporting evidence to your theory however...

The NX will not fail in March. It will sell really well throughout 2017 no matter if it's garbage or not. Ony in 2018 we will see if NX will be successful.

It sold 3 million in the first 9 months. Seems good for a Nintendo console that was considered a failure from the start. I believe the NX will easily top that.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I think Nintendo will try very hard with the NX, but it may be a lot like Sega with the Dreamcast (good system but consumers had moved on). At least the console variant may turn out like that.

The Wii U is basically Nintendo's Saturn (a disaster).

what on Earth would be the reasoning that Nintendo can't be a hardware manufacturer anymore? you realize if they aren't making their own hardcore than they lose TONS of control right?

even the Wii U, which has sold very poorly, has practically not lost money.

It says a lot that the only surviving hanheld system is theirs and their IP can draw in fans.

ridiculous theory and I am not sure if it is meant to be a joke or what. Based on how much Nintendo has sort of limited their software output for the Wii U I think its plainly obvious that they've been working on a lot of NX projects

Nintendo going third party wouldn't help at all. They would push more software, sure, but at lower margins and without ANY opportunity to make money from selling accessories and other random things. People often forget how much revenue Nintendo pulls in from little odds and ends relating to their systems (memory cars, things like the Wii motion controllers, Pro controllers, etc.)

A company like Nintendo that has loads of money into the bank is not going to freak out and abandon their 30 year base strategy of having their consoles just because of one somewhat poor generation.

we're still at a point where both Sony and Microsoft would LOVE to have a handheld as successful as the 3DS. I feel like there is a strange ignorance regarding Nintendo lately simply because of the Wii U's somewhat failure. Selling 60 million 3DS's at nearly 200$ a pop isn't anything to scoff at, and then especially when you consider that Nintendo is the biggest company in terms of software sales (in-house produced compared with any other studio, whether first party or third party).

the NX will be successful if it's a breath of fresh air compared to the Wii U. better specs OR a unified library and, bam, loads of Nintendo fans and loads of casuals will jump on board.

They simply need to have a solid lineup the first year. Release with Zelda and then pop out a Pokemon home console game and something like a Mario Galaxy title and the system will do great. Nintendo's execs have been claiming that they are working hard on guranteeing an awesome software lineup so hopefully we get that

all I know is that as a Nintendo fan I am wayyyyyy more excited for the NX than I was the Wii U. just having a new name itself lends itself to hope that NIntendo is going to right the ship a bit in terms of their home system offerings

Sometimes I like to give the benefit of the doubt. I was waiting for some kind of ridiculous reply such as the one he made there haha.

Leaving consoles doesn't mean they can't continue to make portable hardware. In fact *if* Nintendo does go third party I suspect that's how it'll be.

Who knows too for console, it's possible Nintendo would enter into a partnership with either Sony/MS and would be allowed to keep money from making their own controller/accessories, hell I could see MS maybe even Sony allowed Nintendo to make their own XBox or Playstation model entirely.

I think its safe to say that (most likely) conceptually and marketing wise the NX will be released a lot more smoothly than the Wii U. when the name ALONE you picked for the system (in the Wii U's case) is a fundamental mistake, that's a terrible starting foot to get off on.

frankly just a new name and buzz about a NIntendo console will make all the difference

there was a terrible stigma around the 'Wii' name and the gimmicky motion controls by the time the Wii U came out. Which was funny because the Wii U does not utilize even remotely familiar controls to that of the original Wii, thus making the use of the name in the console again cheap and strangely unecessary.

the hype for the NX also seems quite high. There are plenty of people dying for a fairly standard controller from Nintendo with something they recall fondly from a few generations ago to play, like a Mario Galaxy or new Metroid Prime

Nintendo going third party is not a good idea... They struggle to develop games with one console but 3 with different hardware, API and etc?... And it will be 5 with the launch of Scorpio and Neo? Yea no... And why wouldn't they stay in the handheld space? They have zero competition

poor comparison, Sega actually lost a LOT of money on the Saturn and they were even more of a mess in terms of how they marketed and pushed the system as well as how they supported it. There isn't even a particularly good SONIC game on the Saturn, and that's their mascot for god's sake.

also its an impossible comparison, Sega and Nintendo in terms of coming off of a poorly sold system. Nintendo has an incredibly strong handheld, far stronger IP's (even in the 90s the only Sega brand that stuck with consumers was Sonic), and like 10 billion dollars in the bank.

The difference is quite simple- Sega was in DEBT by the time they attempted the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast was a desperate attempt to stay afloat and it failed due to the ridiculous costs in the production of the system and some of its games (Shenmue). Nintendo is not desperately clutching at straws and they are nowhere close to being in debt.

I like the Dreamcast but I think you'd be hard pressed to find ANYONE in 1999 or so who expected the system to save Sega from its financial woes.

Nintendo has a failed console (the Wii U) and they practically (overall through the generation) still in the positive in terms of revenue.

I also will point out that the Saturn did very poorly outside of Japan, and was generally not looked at THAT positively overall in terms of its game library. The Wii U is generally thought of as a good system but with a rather limited library. if anything the Wii U would be the better system to directly compare with the DREAMCAST, but of course, unlike Sega, Nintendo actually has a good footing to move forward

if there's one safe thing to say about Nintendo is that their #1 priority at all times is to make money and gurantee the company's future moving forward. Hence why the Wii U has never had a much of a price cut at all.
