Really sad that the most consumer friendly device is least regarded by consumers.

This. Consumers should be embracing being able to play their games on any device and be praising MS for doing so.

Video gaming is one of the only entertainment industrys still locked in the most anti consumer ways, and people just dont want to see it.

The Play Anywhere program is great and so is the ability to by the game you want on PC.  The problem that the thread tries to tackle is whether or not consumers will get the Slim model knowing that the hardware will be outdated in a year.  And of course people are right for thinking this.  I think they should have waited.  The Slim looks like a really nice console, but if I have a PC (and I do) and I know that it is more powerful than an Xbox (and I do) and I know that the games are coming to PC (and I do)... what motive do I have for buying an S model.  That $300-$400 can go towards the Scorpio if I am so inclined not to upgrad my PC.  Its really strange messageing from Microsoft.  Here we have a new product.  In a year and a half will will have one 4.5X more powerful.  Buy both.... yeah no.

There is a reason why they announced it this early and my guess is that they know the Neo is going to launch soon.
Sony will beat them to the punch again and they don't want to look like they are just tagging along and copying what Sony does.
I still think Sony will have a Slim out this year and MS announced their Slim console early in anticipation to the PS4 slim for the same reasons as why the announced the Scorpion early.

Now it looks better for them because it looks like they are leading the charge for slims and mid-gen consoles. Announcing the Scorpion might damage Xbox One sales but I think it would of been damaged more if Sony announced the Neo and Slim before them and they waited for a full year to announced the Scorpion.

Yup and if the PS4 NEO launches this year with 4tflops and the Scorpio next year with 5tflops people might just wait for the Scorpio.

Who is gonna wait though?  I think Diehard Xbox fans will wait.  I think this was also an attempt from stopping them from going to Neo.

I guess it will come down to how much of a price difference the will be between the XBOneS and Scorpio.

Everything im reading points to both the XB1Scorpio (they should of went with Xbox10) and the PS4Neo being Premium models with a Premium price for people who owns 4k tvs and VR.

I think people are going to be kinda shocked when the price of the PS4K and Scorpio are announced but i could be wrong here.

I think this is key.  A $700 scorpio makes the S model a lot more attractive lol.

People who plan on buying a 4k tv in the future and will be looking for a console to play on the 4k tv.

Yeah but unless the person is a huge Sony fan they might go with the Scorpio if the price is right.

MS is going to do a PS3 move.... announce their new Scorpio for the low low price of 599$.

Meanwhile PS4 neo will be 399$ and have been out a year earlier.

I dont think you have to worry about PS4 neo not selling due to people waiting a year, to get a scorpio instead.

It makes total sense to launch two new consoles right before you give up on consoles.

Xbox one S is a $299 4k player.... Xbox One S is Xbox one replacement... If you still think that PS4 will sell after the PS4 Neo comes out then there is also a market for Xbox One S.

Where do I sign up to become an analyst? I've been saying this for years (Scorpio specific stuff notwithstanding).
