I know what frame-rate is, target 60fps~ on my PC, and still think 30fps is okay when i have a controller.

Fight me brah

No surprised. 60fps on PC might as well be 12 fps on consoles :P

I will be ready for you to fight your 30fps in Rocket League on PC against my 144fps.

Okay i'll admit, i wouldn't want to play something like Rocket League at 30fps. My acceptance of 30fps on consoles isn't universal, just broad enough that most of the games i end up playing on them feel fine to me (if i played everything on consoles i might feel differently, but fortunately i don't have too).

Regardless, i'd doubt you'd need a frame-rate advantage to crush me in Rocket League :p

People repurchase consoles for a slightly smaller box, or a more colourful box, or for extra storage space... Actual improvement to a games graphics and performance shouldn't confuse you. Of course its an optional upgrade for a reason.

Since I don't have a 4k, Neo is going to need some very noticeable improvements outside resolution for me to bother upgrading. Bumping up locked 30 frames to locked 60 on most games - not just Sony titles - would do it.

Yes!

If it helps me take full advantage of my 4k television.....hell yes!

i can't stand hovering around 54-60 FPS.  So, yeah, I'd lock it at 30FPS too.  Unless it's a fighting game...  Which doesn't give any other option than 60FPS, because it's not an option.

With that said, it depends on the person, as far as upgrading goes.  When I had games going from 60-54 FPS, I thought, "Why would anyone be okay with framerate instability?"

No, it must be smooth.  Either 60, or 30.  Better not drop a frame.

I've said multi-plats, I'll just get the PC version.  But, I may change that stance, because it makes an impact on streaming.  So, when Tekken 7 comes to consoles, I may get it for both, and I may upgrade my PS4.  Don't know at the moment, though.

30fps is not a compromise. Turning down the graphics is the compromise to reach stable 60.

The ps4 neo will not only be about higher resolution, its defeniatley worth it

If you look at games like TLOU and Halo4 then the ps4 and Xbox one have been minor graphical upgrades so far. :p

I can't tell the difference between 4k and 1080p while watching a movie on a 40 inch screen from about 6 feet away.

I doubt that you already watched a 4k-movie on a 40'' 4k-TV screen. ;)

But for some people, a smaller console or a console with less power drain or a console with less noise or a console with a bigger HDD is already enough to justify their upgrade. So why shouldn't a console with better graphics (4K/better AA or 60 fps instead of 30 fps or better post processing/textures/shadows) and probably less noise due to better efficiency/components and probably a bigger HDD (perhaps even faster due to SATA3 instead of SATA2) not justify the upgrade?

I agree. We upgrade things in our lives all the time that someone else might call minor. Why should consoles be different?  Excluding the console life cycle arguement that is and just focusing on tech upgrades. I buy crap all the time because it's a little bit better now than what I have currently.

Any extra once of power is going to be an absolute necessity over the next decade, and maybe beyond.

IMO, 4K is a stupid marketing gimmick for Neo and Scorpio. The real reason we need these consoles is VR.

With the optics in VR, it makes it look like you have an IMAX surrounding you. Resolution and frame rate are absolutely critical in this medium. Right now the current headsets suffer from the screen door effect, and games not all being at 120hz. We need to get these headsets up to 4K and beyond asap. As the excitement for VR moves from the press to the public, demand for a more refined experince will force innovation, and new tech.

Sony and Mircosoft know they need Neo/Scorpio and rapid refreash cycle to reap the rewards of the VR market. That is why they are movinv their platforms in line with Apple and Google. They have to do this to compete. They already lost the mobile business for a couple of decades, theg don't want to be playing second fiddle in VR as well.
