No the article smells a little bit, because they say:

"..., told a CVG reader that it was clearing out its supply of 40GB PS3 units in preparation for the arrival of the 80GB consoles some time soon...."

Sorry, but they will not let the 40GB die (maybe just upgrade the hard drive, but leave the rest). They will only do that if they have a version of the PS3 that cost less to manufacture by then. Something on that article smells, either it just putting stuff together, or not getting the bigger picture (new hardware revision, price drop, etc.)

I hope the 80GB or an eqevilant goes to EU and Japan at some time this year. I think that not having that option is really hurting them in Japan, and is probably slowing the EU sales buy about 15%. I am a huge gamer and PS is easly my perfered brand, but even I would not buy a PS3 if they were not offering the me the best version in my region. My sisters B-Day is coming up in April and I was going to get her a PS3 so she could watch Blu-ray, but I will be waiting to get her one until the 80GB comes back as I would not feel right giving her a console that can't play FFX which is her favorite game of all time.

I have noticed here in sweden that the 40gb unit is very hard to find, I actually can't find it in any store in the capital area. There are only bundles available, but not good ones like the GT5p bundle.

It is available online though, but I just want to walk into a store and pick it up (for a reasonable price). It seems strange that there would not be units available, maybe something is really going on.

I think the rumours are getting too strong to deny this is happening .

I see this happening :

Come June ,the 40Gb will be price cut to 299 or 349 euros ,the 80Gb will be released at a 399-449euros price and there will be a bundle for 499 with MGSIV and the DS3 .
