Forums - Gaming - Battleborn apparently inflating hours played so you can't refund (Non-conclusive evidence)

It caught my attention through the Steam Forum that these particular issue is affecting several users:

Battleborn is recording hours played even when game is not on

Okay, so. I went to sleep. I wake up to see Battleborn have 8 more hours played. It's at 116 hours when I woke up. Last time I played, the hours were at 108 hours played. Steam was offline, I checked it through mobile, so nobody accessed my steam account and I don't family share. Basically, it keeps clocking in hours even when I'm playing another game, hell, even when I'm offline and the computers off. Now it's at 130 hours and I haven't played since.
Some others are having this same issue as well. What's going on?

As I glanced over the webpage funnyjunk, there was a twitter post where someone stated it is made in order to avoid getting a refund through Steam and make the game more popular than it is.

This is all non-conclusive and there's not much to state a case, but considering Gearbox's rocky history now, this might actually be true?

Thats....quite the accusation.

A quick google search shows this has happened to many people across many games.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

As bad as Microsoft forcing windows 10 to have prettier statistics

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

There would have to be a lot more evidence than that when this is a relatively common occurrence with Steam.

Well, unless it's a wide-spread conspiracy. Dun dun dun!

You mean someone else on this site goes to FJ too? :D

Loll, not even surprised.... Its fucking Gearbox

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Probably just a bug because I suppose Steam tracks the hours by itself. If this was delibrate though and they really were inflating hours to scam people out of a refund, then this would be fraud.

Seems more of a Steam issue than a games issue. I doubt that the games provide Steam with the hours played and rather that steam tracks how long a specific game was running.

Just because it's Gearbox doesn't mean we should turn off our brains and stop applying logic. As others have stated the time is tracked by Steam itself. Also the refund time period is a mere 2h. There is no benefit of inflating the time. If you've played less than that, you would refund the game anyway right after you stopped playing.

Senseless hate on certain developers is just as bad as fanboy behavior.

It's a steam issue, steam is responsible for tracking and I highly doubt a game can have any influence on the tracking.
