Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: 3ds hits the 60m milestone worldwide (shipped)! 2DS price cut increases a lot 2ds sales!

Source: Nintendo PR

P.s

3DS shipment  total was 58.85m as of March 31th 2016, meaning that Nintendo has sold in 1.15m ( up by 250k and counting quarter over quarter ) 3ds as of first week of June and more than  last year, second quarter, which was the second quarter of the newly  New 3ds xl presence!

It's outright unexpected and a fortunate occurence! Nintendo forecast is about 5m 3ds in this FY...

The aforementioned news, may imply that 3ds already exceeds Nintendo's expectations, unless it slows down later this year....

Pokemon sun and moon are being released in late November!

Around the Network

PR said sold, but it's 99.99% shipped.

There were 58.85 million 3DS sold in as for March 31.

This mean that Nintendo has sold in a minimum of 1.15 million 3DS this quarter, and that's number will be even bigger in the quarter report since there are still 4 weeks of sales.

What really impressed me is that last year 3DS shipped 1.01 million that quarter, which mean they are gonna be up YOY by a good margin...

well, didn't expect that.

Nice, a good milestone

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

good numbers, i was thinking of getting of 2Ds if they have that SNES retro look. :)

Thats excellent news, one that Nintendo trully needs in this year.

If this is true, and with a new Pokemon comming later this year, this might end up being a great year for the 3DS, sales-wise, and may very well end up breaking the 3DS forecast for this fiscal year.I mean, they already sold/shipped 1.15 million 3DSs in 2 months, and they are probably the slowest months of the year.By the time christmas comes, if this keeps up, its likely they may already pass the 5 million forecast numbers for 3DS!

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

You know, it is insane  - INSANE - to look at the Wii U and 3DS side by side and see how radically different Nintendo's handling has been on these systems.  Everything they got right with the 3DS, they got wrong with the Wii U.

The 3DS has had pricecuts and good sales at opportune moments, the Wii U has not.

Nintendo recognized consistently when price became a major obstacle for the 3DS and adjusted accordingly.  With the Wii U, they did not.

Special editions consoles and game bundles have been common and well executed for the 3DS.  The Wii U's bundles are usually of games years old, ill timed, and there's only been ONE special edition console the entire time.

The 3DS has had good ads on numerous stations for big games like Pokemon, Smash, etc.  The Wii U's only had 3 games with prolific advertisement (though they have stepped up advertising since 2014, just not on nearly enough stations).

The 3DS has had SYSTEM focused ads that show all the advantages of the backlog, usually multiple ones running at key seasons.  The Wii U didn't have a single system focused, backlog-highlighting ad in 2014 - a year where they had lots of positivity and the three top-rated big exclusives (two of which were GOTY nominees), their 2013 ones were absolutely horrible, and they didn't have another one until holiday 2015 which was decent.

Nintendo has used their relationships with many companies to great effect on the 3DS to encourage or lock down games like the Bravely series, Monster Hunter, Etrian Odyssey, big and small games alike.  On the Wii U, they have done this *to a degree* but not nearly on the level or with the consistence of the 3DS.

And lastly, the 3DS has had a consistent, confident image from launch to now.  The Wii U?  First it was a CORE gamer system, the a casuals system, then they just abandoned all identity and when full on generic for the launch and the first two thirds of 2013, then it was a kids' system, then they finally got something resembling a cohesive, all encompassing identity at 2014's e3 which they still managed to not maintain consistently.  Nintendo's always had a tone of lack of confidence in the Wii U, which is a death sentence for any product.  If you don't have confidence in what you make, why should the consumer?

It's baffling really, the 3DS shows Nintendo does know how to succeed with dedicated hardware.  They just mysteriously forget all that when they work with the Wii U.  Hopefully, they've learned their lesson on some level.

well, didn't expect that.

It's self-evident but I will  cite  it in the title.!

Yeah, it shockingly unexpected... And it's not only yoy up , it's also qoq up in a weaker sales quarter, with three or fours weeks left for new shipments! O_O

Plus Japan, where 3ds sales currently are mediocre but justifiable for this time period! West must be closing the gap with Japan, which is great if it's happening!

3DS sales must have resurged somewhere... Europe?

Anticipation of Pokemon sun and Moon? More people finally deciding to upgrade  to New 3ds/xl? Yokai watch which slays in Europe, excluding the UK? Maybe thye have silently released the coveted New 3ds model normally in the USA/AMERICAS?

The interesting thing is that in the same time frame. there were 680k gba units shipped down from 980k of last year! So 3ds reduced the  gap by 600k units... Still is fairly behind it  mosty due to the Americas but it's good to see the difference being rebated!

3DS shows way better legs than gba...Exciting!

What fills me with joy is that the price drop of 2ds had a considerable effect, I hope that it will continue... You can technically have a 3ds for just 79 dollars! Very enticing, especially for the kids who have been obsessed with mobile+tablet...  An audience that 3ds is missing! Nintendo must grow the Nintendo selects family  and expand it to bigger block-busters , which by the way has huge success according to Ninty numbers!

I'm looking forward to the price drop of the real hot thing, New 3ds/xl...! Or at least to the old models, because they have huge stock which  is stagnant ( who wants to buy them when there are the new models with not being much more expensive than them? ) and probably causing trouble to Ninty with shipments of the New models! FIRESALE THEM!

I don't really get why Ninten hasn't really tried special edition consoles with their home ones. They worked really well with the 3DS, and the Wii U's design was so simple and plain, they could have slapped something on it. I really wish they did at least one home console design, and not just the gamepad. That was laaaame.
