Forums - Sales - May 2016 NPD Thread! Hardware and software numbers up!

In comparison, the Xbox One Elite bundle (that comes with an Elite Wireless Controller) had very weak sales...again. It has completely failed to drive consumer demand in the USA.

Elite controller is great but pay $449 for a Xbox One without any game is too much. The spring 1TB bundle with 4 games is $319, so Elite console price is insane.

"Still curious about sales for Homefront and Rachet and Clank for the month. And as you said we still need 3DS figures. Once things settle down after E3 I'll be revisiting my Bold Predictions for the month and there are still a few we don't have the necessary data for."

Allan-BH on NeoGAF:
"creamsugar can give life to the thread with splits for SW and some other numbers, but he didn't appear last month, so..."

...the reason the NPD thread on GAF is dead is because no one bothers to quote me on GAF unless I give out exact leaks! I'm saying plenty stuff about the industry but that's apparently irrelevant! If I'm not a number farm regurgitating numbers then I'm useless to them! LOL

So, what happens if they ever deactivate your account? You'll go back? Btw, do you have R&C numbers. Thanks for the all the info of far.

Essentially, Nintendo isn't manufacturing any more Wii U in any significant capacity.

They have approximately $150 million worth of Wii U inventory at the end of March....valued at an average selling price to retailers of $220 per unit, that's approximately 700K Wii U units they have in inventory to sell-through.

That extra 100K to make up the 800K projections is for the tiny bit of Wii U manufacturing they've done since then just to round out the fiscal year.

But the point behind the 800K is that by March 2017 they will have essentially depleted their Wii U inventory so they can hit the ground running with NX without taking write-off losses which would significantly impact profitability.

neat to finally have an semi-accurate estimate on how many systems are still left in inventory since there rumored mass production back in 2013.

We can atleast guess that all 700k of those systems are for the NA and EU territiory since Japan is currently having stock issue since Nintendo is producing the bare minimum amount of Wii U's possible. Makes me almost wonder if Nintendo plan right now is to just go throught the NA and EU stock and the rest of the 100k is for the production of Japanese Wii U's.

Wow, went on that thread over there, they weren't kidding when they are saying its slow. I guess its hurting there egos having to take numbers and industry info from chatzzz. They seem to love the vague pie chart route, could always entertain them.

Japan is pretty much the only place that the Wii U has shown any real demand that's not tepid at best (because of the Splatoon phenomenon) so I could see the majority of remaining stock go there. There is indeed quite a lot of Wii U stock on shelves throughout USA, Europe, and Australasia that needs turnover...probably enough to last the rest of the calendar year without any major restockings.

Now is the best time to get a Wii U if you haven't gotten one yet----once NX hits, Wii U consoles and games will become scarce and will start commanding premiums online.

You mean re-activate my account? Not going to happen. The egos of the NeoGAF mods are way, way too large to admit a mistake like banning me. I'll remain eternally permabanned for absolutely no good reason at all...I'll put $100 on that.

Would I go back? Ehh...maybe...probably not. If Sales-Age people (like CosmicQueso) would migrate to other, less-oppressive forums that weren't GAF, I really wouldn't have any ties to that place and I wouldn't miss it in the slightest. There are some really smart people over there, though, and that's what's tough about completely letting go.

I've discussed R&C numbers multiple times in this thread....the second time very recently. When you read what I wrote you won't need precise numbers to arrive at an close-enough 2-month LTD.

A bit late by me but thanks for all the analysis and data as always Aqua! You do a great job.

Thanks for explaining the significance of life time sales. Aqua can you share software attachment ratio. Initially XBO was leading in it. Is it still or not?

Interesting note about Ubisoft:

The Division really should be in the Top 10...it really should have managed 80K this month. Instead, it missed the 80K excluding bundles mark by a good amount which is fundamentally disappointing for a title that's as high-powered as The Division.

The Division is the top seller for Ubisoft this month, but it didn't even come close to 80K (like not even to something like 75K) even when you INCLUDE Xbox One bundle units....it was quite disappointing seeing The Division miss the 80K threshold.

February's Far Cry Primal sold just under 40K units and came in the #2 place for Ubisoft, followed by Rainbow Six Siege and all the other Ubisoft catalog.

Considering The Division sold 175K in April (including Xbox One bundle units) and 1.796 million in March, I expected more out of the title, but its legs seem to have faltered.

Does NPD have issue with you posting total software splits for a month? Like a breakdown of all total software sold per month by platform, like 50% PS4, 40% Xbox One, and 10% Wii U or whatnot?

I was just interested in trends regarding software splits across the platforms, but I could see NPD could possibly take issue with this even though it's rather broad.

If you can't give specific percents, would you be allowed to discuss any overall trends you notice in software splits YoY or MoM?

Sure, I can give approximate percentages:

PS4: ~$133 million software sold in May 2016 NPD (~65% marketshare for 8th-gen consoles) (+88% from last May)

XB1: ~$62 million software sold in May 2016 NPD (~30% marketshare for 8th-gen consoles) (+26% from last May)

WIU: ~$11 million software sold in May 2016 NPD (~5% marketshare for 8th-gen consoles) (-38% from last May)

Industry: $241.9 million software sold in May 2016 NPD (+18.2% from last May)

Crapgamerreviews : "playstation owners dont buy games!"

Hes obviously wrong.
