Forums - Sales - May 2016 NPD Thread! Hardware and software numbers up!

So it looks like the XB1 sold around 102k in a month when they were selling a bundle for $350+5 games+extra controller+$50 gift voucher. At this point I think they ma cut their losses, reduce the price to keep it ticking over and actually announce that the Scorpio is an XB2.

That was only a Amazon deal. Most places it was $350. Nonetheless those are piss poor sales. Hopefully the xbox slim and Scorpio can help the console.

3DS over 60 million.

(Note the percentage increases above refer to 2DS only)

Man, Nintendo sales are really in the gutter. Not even a single game appearing on a Nintendo platform in the top 10 and record low Wii U hardware sales.

If NX isn't a smash hit, I think it could definitely be their last console.

I'd honestly hope they go third party. Don't feel like putting up with underpowered hardware and gimmicks just for some 1st party Nintendo games.

Considering the NX is most likely going to be around an OG PS4, or worse, an OG XBO, the NX is going to be outdated the minute it launches.  They better have one heck of a gimmick if they don't want this to be their last console.  Personally, I would love to see a true Mario RPG sequel, fully realized in 3D, using all of what the PS4 Neo has to offer.  Or  Mario 64 2.

The plangent comments about wii u sales all over the internet are farcical, and I say that because some people act like these sales are unexpected! Hello, wii u's successor has been announced and has an early 2017 release date... Fear of backwards compatability! ;)

Yh makes sense. You are right. WiiU sales were significantly better before the annoucement of the NX.

Gloating time :P.

Uncharted 4 less then 1m as expected. PS4 between 201k and 213k as expected.

XB1 down on my prediction.Wii U around my prediction. 3DS Up (Assuming)

Battleborn did better then expected, as did MLB charting 3 months in a row. MLB should be over 550k LTD already.

But Homefront was the biggest bomba. And Division has 0 legs.

Hi guys, I have some sales data that I'll share with you.

But here's the thing....if you're going to share it anywhere (like the OP, on Twitter, on NeoGAF) please mention that it came from Aquamarine.

It depresses me when people just take the data and repost it without giving me any credit. I have a very busy schedule and life and I'm not going to bother to share data if all sharing data does is depress me. I get flashbacks to how horribly I was treated by NeoGAF moderation and...it's tough.

This data, as always, is courtesy of The NPD Group, and my contact and friend at The NPD Group (no, not the FUCKING CEO) who is so gracious to allow me to continue to share data even though he was treated like shit on NeoGAF by the moderators.

First up, console hardware numbers. These hardware numbers are sanctioned for release by my contact:

PS4 Hardware:

February 2016 NPD: 404,900

March 2016 NPD: 330,100 (+0.1% from last March)

April 2016 NPD: 174,800 (+0.1% from last April)

May 2016 NPD: 207,300 (+35.8% from last May)

XBO Hardware:

February 2016 NPD: 248,200

March 2016 NPD: 241,500 (+5.5% from last March)

April 2016 NPD: 167,600 (-10.3% from last April)

May 2016 NPD: 107,100 (-23.3% from last May)

WIU Hardware:

February 2016 NPD: 69,400

March 2016 NPD: 66,200 (-19.8% from last March)

April 2016 NPD: 32,300 (-24.8% from last April)

May 2016 NPD: 25,300 (-40.7% from last May)

360 Hardware:

February 2016 NPD: 33,500

March 2016 NPD: 24,200 (-50.7% from last March)

April 2016 NPD: 12,500 (-50.6% from last April)

May 2016 NPD: 11,900 (-53.5% from last May)

PS3 Hardware:

February 2016 NPD: 3,700

March 2016 NPD: 2,100 (-96.0% from last March)

April 2016 NPD: 3,700 (-86.8% from last April)

May 2016 NPD: 10,700 (-44.5% from last May)

Thank you Aqua!

Won bet with t3mporary_126 - I correctly predicted that the Wii U's LTD at the end of 2014 would be closer to 9 million than 10 million. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6673287

Thanks for the numbers Aqua.

Any particular reason Handhelds are typically excluded though? I am guessing the market is just getting to be so bad, that it is only a minor part in the NPD reports.

Three reasons:

1) I'm sharing data from the retail console industry. It shows you the health of that slice of the market (assume OG Wii is completely dead). Handhelds are a completely different set of data.

2) Handhelds are completely irrelevant in the retail market and to be honest I don't care about them in the slightest.

3) Sharing precise data for 5 systems is the deal I struck with my contact at The NPD Group. They are uncomfortable with me sharing literally every single hardware data point.
