Forums - Gaming - UWP Increases Xbox install base significantly.

UWP/Universal Windows Platform is terrible, absolutely terrible.
PC Gamers dislike it as even basic PC gaming staples are buggy and non-functional. (SLI/Crossfire, V-Sync and all that other stuff.)
It's competition is Steam, the standard it needs to meet is Steam, PC gamers love Steam, PC gamers have invested their game library's with Steam.

Microsoft actually needs to compete properly with Steam, Steam has all the games, has all the DLC, has the lowest prices and is supported by the most developers.

If Microsoft wishes to gain better traction though and rebuild the good will that they completely threw out the window with Games for Windows Live... Then they should patch all the GFWL games so that they are now UWP titles. Everything from Gears to Fable 3 to GTA IV.

That will be the only way they will ever get me on board.

Well, we all have to have dreams right?

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Do you really get the impression they are competing with Steam? That implies they are trying to steal Steam's audience.

To me Windows Store and Steam is like Netflix and Hulu. They aren't really competitors because they offer very different content and many people use both.

People can use both, but they're competing to sell all non exclusive games, MS for sure want to steal those sales.

I don't see much effort on MS's part to get non-exclusive content (i.e. content already on Steam) on Windows Store. In fact, they still put content on Steam thus taking away exclusivity from themselves. People seem to think MS is trying to take Steam's audience, but for the most part it looks like MS is trying to get more people on WIndows 10 and using their store atleast for exclusive content.

To me it seems Windows Store has found success with casual games, essentially the same content on smart devices.

Lets not forget Steam encourages people to stick with Windows, so it helps MS as well. If Steam was moving people from Windows to some other OS, MS might put a serious effort to compete.

Third Party software gets an INSANE amount of revenue, Microsoft certainly want those games on their store. Windows Store was not created just for Microsoft Products.

As I mentioned already, MS is probably doing well pushing casual stuff on thier marketplace and their 1st party games.

Valid complaints but I'm pretty some of those issues are being addressed, some may already have. Its getting better, not worse.

The WIndows Store would certainly be more interesting if they simply ported over some of their existing PC games to Windows Store. Also the easiest way to win over some fans.

Giving away games for free goes a long way too. It worked for EA and Origin.
I wouldn't even care if you required a gold subscription to grab the free games on PC.

Heck, makes you wonder why they don't do the same on mobile too?

It's a good way to build a player base.

As for UWP getting better not worst... Same could have been said for Games for Windows Live! Over it's life time.
And yet... Look where we are today. - Microsoft just isn't getting the support and nor should they untill their have a competent platform, Ubisoft also gets the same criticism with uPlay... And so they should.

The biggest problem with GFWL is support didn't last. Perhaps GFWL should have evolved into Windows Store as opposed to just going away.

It looks like MS is going to be more serious with its Windows Store support. Also, its not just a marketplace for games and its pushing Windows 10.

Microsoft is going to dominate the PC market with UWP, just like they dominated Smartphones with Windows Phone! Oh, wait...

No chance in hell against Steam, sorry.

Do you really believe dominating the PC gaming market is the goal of Windows Store or are you just show your wit?
