Forums - Gaming - How can each of the big 3 improve?

Microsoft needs to start putting all their games on PC and be the beast you are buy out gaming ips. You bought Gears and Minecraft this gen, keep that momentum going. Halo, Gears and Minecraft are huge ips, keep it going.

Nintendo needs to remove regional restrictions on its hardware and software; actually release a home console that the mass market wants and publishers are willing to support till the end of its life cycle; expand its software line-up to provide more variety (either by having third-party support or branching out internally); redesign its account system so that accounts and licenses aren't as bound to a particular console as they are now; and perhaps build some goodwill among its core audience by releasing some oft-requested titles that might make a loss (like F-Zero or Metroid Prime).

Sony needs to redesign its store front so that it's not as slow and include new features like being able to purchase permanent licenses for titles received from PlayStation Plus (without needing to let the sub expire, or create a second account); release an emulator for PS1 titles that includes re-rendering at a higher resolution and trophy support; possibly find a way to allow people to use PS1/PS2 discs with an emulator (preferably without downloading, except for the trophy data); re-examine its first-party line-up, possibly investing in more of its legacy IP, more in Japan and rethinking announcing titles like Everybody's Golf so far out from release.

Microsoft needs to add more offline support for Xbox One (especially local profiles (not linked to XBL accounts), but achievement notifications and other features would be welcomed); invest more into first-party studios and first-/second-party releases; improve its variety of first-party content; release an Xbox emulator for Xbox One that re-renders games at a higher resolution and supports achievements; rethink its approach to PC gaming, including drastically improving UWP and possibly releasing games on both Steam and Windows Store (and, if one can dream, GOG); reduce its minimum order quantity for physical releases on Xbox One; and move even closer to Sony and Nintendo with its approach to indie games.

Microsoft: Sell Xbox. Set up the Windows Store as a proper competitor to Steam and go mostly PC, with any games that would work on consoles released as a multiplat.

Nintendo: Buy Xbox. imo Nintendo are complete shit at making consoles. So by buying out a series of consoles that are already good and not adding any more anti-consumer policies to them they could finally have some success with decent consoles. That's all they'd really need to do. Buy Xbox and keep it running as it is now, except destory those 'future evil plan' files that Microsoft have been working on, and all will be good.

Sony: They need to make their own JRPG franchise. Ideally they'd take a hat filled with money over to Sakaguchi and get him to create it (and many sequels).

  • Worst idea ever. The day Microsoft no longer makes consoles is the day I leave gaming...

As for Sony, Sakaguchi spat on their drink and left the room when they tried to do that...

So you havent gamed until 2002?

Sony cancel the PS neo and announce a new 3d platformer. Also improve PSN and make it especially a lot faster. Make a new Wipeout with VR support, that would be a PSVR seller. Oh and make the last of us 2 for obvious reasons.

Microsoft cancel the X Scorpio and announce a new Xone exclusive, preferably not a shooter. Also make the Xone a console and not a transition device for W10.

Nintendo well what can you do now that you already screwed up showing anything of NX during this E3. Anyway let the NX be the Gamecube 2 without a weird disc format so third parties will support it and sell it cheaper than $300, around $250 lies the sweetspot and no weird gimmick.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

For Sony, remove online paywall or at least improve the perks, abandon making portable consoles in the future (I don't think they can get any lower there), more 3rd party exclusives (just like the PS2 days) and that's as ideal as their going to get realistically speaking ...

For Microsoft, start buying big third party publishers or go home, need more variety and creation of first party IPs, and drop the online paywall too ...

There's too much to say how Nintendo could improve but to make it short they absolutely need to rethink their entire strategy going forward into the near and far future or whether they can still compete in the game industry ...

Sony: better PS Plus lineup, use old IP's

MS: bolster first party

Nintendo: more third party games, no gimmicks

Nintendo: Go third party, if Nintendo were to focus just on releasing games for everyone, they stand to be the best publisher on the planet period. And would probably make more money than any publisher.

I still say that'd be a terrible idea. They're software output has been hit or miss lately, so obviously they wouldn't be healthy as a third party publisher.

All they have to do is make Mario, Mario Kart, Zelada, Smash bros, yoshi and metroid. If done right eveey iteration if those games can sell over 10M each.

Sony revive Legend of Dragoon.

Nintendo give up on Consoles and just make games, they just make terrible console imo.

MS...Well they don't seem to care about console as much anymore

Microsoft: Games, games, games. MS's consoles are great but the games library SUCK SO INCREDIBLY OMG I JUST CANT BELIEVE IT. Exclusive games like Halo and Gears no longer draw the same audience they used to, and there's really no variety to look for in XOne.

Nintendo: "It would be awesome to have a console that can play all the Nintendo games plus the multiplatforms like Witcher, MGS, Dark Souls, etc". For me, that's just it. Get a console decent enough to support third party games. Besides that it becomes a matter of quality check for their own games because they can't allow stuff like SFZERO to continue. Also, make a big-scale 3D Pokemon game.

Sony: Buy Konami and give us Suikoden.

Besides all that, no charge for online multiplayer and get some seriously bigger virtual console gallery. It's incredible how they all suck.

Your advice for sony improvement i agree 200%!

So for me...

Sony - revive old ip, invest more in jrpgs and cancel ps neo.

Nintendo - focus less on gimmics and "innovation" stop ruling with an iron fist, listen to the consumer, get third party support, better online, hardware consumers want and devs want to develop for and most importantly...create more new ip!

Micro - ummm i dont really care for microsoft ill admit but....create more appealing games for all kinds of gamers.
