Forums - Gaming - The Order: 1886 Developer’s New Game To Be Announced Next Week

The Order: 1886 was one of the most anticipated PlayStation 4 exclusives for a while. Unfortunately for studio Ready at Dawn, it did not fully deliver on the hype, but the developer has now moved past it.

Seven months ago, we reported that Ready at Dawn was hiring and working on multiple, exciting projects; five months ago, Founder & Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Andrea Pessino said that the company just needs to produce a better game than The Order: 1886 now, and they will.

It looks like it’s almost time to check out at least one of those projects. You might remember that last month we published a news about GameStop’s brand new publishing division, GameTrust; Ready at Dawn is one of the first studios to join it, alongside Frozenbyte, Insomniac and Tequila Works.

Insomniac’s Song of the Deep will be the first game to be released under GameTrust, being scheduled to become available on July 12 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. But yesterday, GameStop’s COO Tony Bartel said during the Q1 2016 earnings call:

Next week, we will be announcing our second game under development, with Ready at Dawn.

It sounds like the announcement is coming well ahead of E3 2016, though Ready at Dawn might be showcasing the game in some form during the convention. We know very little about the game itself, though some details can be gleaned from the job listings.

We are in the pre-production phase of an exciting new AAA third-person action console title, based on a brand new original IP we are creating. In addition, we are also in full production on a cutting edge VR experience, in partnership with Oculus. Our team is growing, so come join one of the preeminent independent video-game developers in the world.

No idea what to expect. RAD did good work with Daxter and God of War, but laid an egg with The Order. I'd be more open-minded if the studio hadn't gone on the record saying gameplay was tertiary to story and graphics.

I am ready to give them another shot. The Order had a lot of potential and while I enjoyed my time with, it left so much to be desired and some other questionable decisions. Bring it on, RAD.

Hopefully they're less dismissive of gameplay in their next venture.

Depending on the type of game, I do agree that story can be as important, if not more, as gameplay.A easy example would be visual novels. But yeah, for what they tried to achieve with The Order, gameplay should have come first. They really dropped the ball there.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I hope they've learned from their experience with 1886, but all I ever heard from them suggested they felt popular opinion was simply wrong on the matter. I don't see any reason to expect something different from them, but here's hoping they're taking a different approach to this one as they're definitely a quality studio capable of making likewise quality games.

I don't know why, but it feels like they used the money from TO 1886 as a stepping stone to go out and get more independence and work. It almost feels like they used TO to market themselves. I wonder what Sonys relationship with RAD is like now and whether they will ever be trusted with a project again.

I can't imagine it's very good. Not just because the game under performed.

RAD basically took a ton of Sony's money, took years making an engine, and then left Sony with a game that didn't do particularly well critically or commercially while RAD gets to keep their fancy new engine for their later games.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

hope this time they focus more on gameplay quality instead of just on graphics like 1886...
