Forums - Nintendo - I think I know what's going on with Zelda U/NX

I think they may be hoping to show an avalanche of cool thinks at once immediately preceding the sale to generate some interest, as if they show it all now it will be old news by the time the holidays are over (and they would still have not sold a thing).

Pretty much the only reason they gave for delaying the Nx past the holidays is that they wanted a strong launch library referencing a lesson they learned from the Wii U, so it's impossible to know what games they're buying extra time for. Either way, Zelda would be delayed so as to provide a game many will want from day 1 on the Nx. Whether Zelda is the game that CAUSED the delay or is merely delayed because some other game wasn't ready, we cannot say.

Personally though, I'm very excited. If you consider both that the only game we even know of is the Zelda game that's not even an exclusive and that they've openly stated their focus is on a quality launch library, there would appear to be a great deal of games that will be released as soon as q1 of next year that have not even been announced yet.

Immediately preceding, as in what, 3 months to a day before launch? That's really a good idea and 9 months is really too soon? Wouldn't Zelda be one of if not the biggest part of that avalanche, yet they're showing it at E3 without the NX, and we all know the NX version will be the primary one. Zelda is also the only thing being shown there. That tells me they most certainly wanted to bring NX to E3, but since they can't, this is the next best thing they can do to hype up the NX.

You're speaking as if that Zelda game is a new announcement, when it's an old one that's been in development for years. A Zelda game developed for the Wii U was never going to be their ticket to selling the Nx. It can help, but there's no surprise or secret there.

I personally don't think they ever had any intention of releasing it a ways back. What they showed a couple years ago was pretty but, in my mind, perfectly reflected a game that was about two to three years from release.

It would make sense that the game would seem somewhat empty at that time, as anyone who has played an alpha or even early beta version of a game (and with Steam that's a pretty common experience now) will tell that really fleshing out the world with content happens fairly late in the process.

Even if those rumors didn't exist, I believed the same about the game following the footage they showed. That was a world with great potential that needed time to develop, and I'm glad they've had that time.

Then this makes me mad if the only thing they can do since Dec 2011 o Jun 2014 is just that 15 seconds teaser.

I think it's fair to say the development of this game has been difficult for them, but that's not exactly unusual for an open world game. This is really their first entry into the large, 3d open world genre that, these days, takes a good half decade to develop.

Still waiting on the next Elder Scrolls, for instance... Skyrim came out in 2011.

Well, then they better do it right. It would be a big waste to keep waiting all this time for turd. That's why an open world was a bad financial decision, if you are not good at HD at your first attempt, better try something easier and when you feel confident you try more difficult things.

It may aswell be a new announcement with how long it's been since they last gave any real info which wasn't much to begin with, and how it doesn't even have a name. It will help much more than the average game, that's for sure, and helping is all any one game can do.

Yeah, I'm admittedly, probably for the first time, less than confident about this game being great. I'm sure it won't be bad, but with Zelda I've always simply assumed it'd be fantastic, and they've always proved me right (at least as far as console main titles go).

I hope it works out for them. The funny thing is the open world concept is something they largely popularized with the original and have always wanted to provide, but tech prevented them from doing it. Now they're actually late-comers to their original vision.

With the popularity of indie games and such, though, it's clear you don't need to put out a game akin to a Bethesda or Ubisoft title (in terms of scale) to please people... Everyone has loved the rerelease of Wind Waker, after all.

Well, the other possiblity is that, as this is a port, it's not revealing of what the Nx actually IS. A somewhat concerning (but not implausible) possibility that occurred to me is that the Nx is something which plays different from most consoles, and so any games developed for it would be a giveaway of their new gimmick.

I hope that's not the case, but as it is Nintendo one has to assume the console won't be completely conventional.

Huh whut? Since when were we talking about what the NX is? That has nothing to do with whether Zelda was delayed because NX or vice versa.

Yeah it's derailed a little. I was merely saying that they certainly wanted Zelda to be part of their Nx launch for publicity, but there's a chance the reason the only game they're showing so far is Zelda is that, as a game developed for the Wii U, it's not revealing of what the Nx actually is. If there's some gimmick they're trying to hide like they had with the Wii and Wii U, they might not be able to show any games designed specifically for it without giving said gimmick away.

Otherwise, I don't think we can possibly know which was delayed for which, as it's clear Nintendo is hellbent on them releasing at the same time.

Or the reason no other NX games are being are shown is because, get this, the NX hasn't been revealed yet, but maybe I'm just crazy! The Zelda at E3 is the Wii U version, so we wont know yet if the NX version takes advantage of the hardware or not, but I bet it will just like Twilight Princess did.

We can't be 100% certain, but one scenario is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more likely than the other.

EDIT: Also do not forget Zelda was originally a 2015 game, so unless you wanna tell me NX was also to release that year then it's clear the delays were to line it up with whenever NX releases.

I wouldn't expect reveals right now, but E3 would fit the general timeframe for console launches to start showing things. I imagine Nintendo will simply have their own announcement well down the road to avoid wasting that publicity of those announcements.

I certainly hope my concerns about keeping some new gimmick hidden aren't validated lol
