Forums - Gaming - Is anybody scared to purchase Nintendo games digitally from fear of not being able to play on future consoles

I love Nintendo but they haven't had the best track record of cloud / user system unification and that makes me a little scared that my purchases are going to be obsolete by the time they decide to re-launch their E-Shop or distribution, am I overreacting or Should I be cautious

My digital SNES games still work flawlessly. #goodguynintendo

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I mean... correct me if I am wrong but... If you bought games on your ps3 like uncharted 2... You can't play them on your ps4 right? So like if you are a afraid of that, then you should be afraid of buying it on the other platforms as well? Maybe other than PC...

Also heck, you could transfer ur digital titles from ur wii to ur wiiU so... Thats more than what you could do with ps3 to ps4...

Nintendo is still a little new to the whole system unification thing. From what they've been saying, they're getting better at it. But other than that, they've actually had a great track record with their e-Shop games. All of the Wii's Virtual Console games are still playable on the Wii U via the Wii Channel and the Wii's e-Shop is still accessible from there. Also, you can upgrade your old VC games on the Wii to the Wii U. You'll have to pay anywhere from 30 cents to a dollar depending on the game but it gives you Gamepad support and a proper screen ratio in return. On the 3DS, all downloadable DSi games are playable on there and the DSi shop is still accessible.

So given how Nintendo has been making slow efforts to improve their online presence and given how much care they've shown towards transferring games to newer consoles, I say go ahead and start purchasing them.

Nintendo was the only one to let you transfer your downloaded games from their 7th gen console to their 8th gen one, so no, you shouldn't be worried.

There oughtta be a thread about how we gotta rebuy games for PS4 but no one says a word about it.
OT I wouldn't be concerned. Nintendo has been allowing you to move your games to the next system without issue this whole time. DSi to 3DS. 3DS to N3DS. Wii to Wii U. If anything they're the only ones you can trust with your digital library.

I dont understand this. You cant do this on any console, why Nintendo is special?

I mean, it sucks, but nobody does it better so far.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

There is a chance that the next system is not backwards compatible anyways so it wouldn't matter

Once you downloaded a digital game, you can still play it offline too.. (unless you delete it of course)

I'm more worried about not being able to sell them after I'm done... most Nintendo games don't lose their value over time =P

I'm just saying that because I'm a broke college student though, if I had a job I would buy all my games on the eShop, it's way more practical.
