Soundwave that link you provide just takes the numbers claimed by nvidia as fact.

The truth is the tegra X1 can run locked at 10watts.

BUT (this is the important part)

those 512 GFlops (or however much they claim it is), those are when its useing over 20watts of power.

If you lock it to 10watts, its performance drops alot.

Its all just marketing.

However it would still be a huge step up in terms of performance compaired to the 3DS & even the Vita.

Do you have a source for the 20 watt thing? Not that I'm doubting it, I think I may have read something similar but it's been a while since I gave the Tegra X1 much thought.

I dont exactly have it book marked.

But I remember everyone marveling about those PR slides, mentioning those 512 Gflops, and the 10watt power draw thingy.

Then I remember someone actually testing it, to show how impressive it was, and that they tested the power consumption of it.

Yes it was impressive for a mobile chip... but it was at 20+ watts.

Bascially what am trying to say is, those impressive benchmarks for the chip where done at 20watts, not at the 10watts shown on PR slides.

Thats why its used in cars & nvidia shield gameing tablets, its too power hungry for phones.

I ll try googleing for it.

I'm still skeptical about this rumor, but this is kinda interested, from Nvidia's CEO:

I also believe that mobile cloud in combination is one of the most powerful computing forces that the computer industry has ever known. Because of mobile cloud, we've been able to extend the capabilities and the benefits of computing to billions of people, whereas in the PC area, we were able to benefit hundreds of millions of people. And yet no one has yet created a game platform around mobile cloud, the technology of mobile cloud, the power of mobile cloud, the architecture of mobile cloud, so that we can extend gaming not to tens of millions of game console users, but billions of users. I think that that's the great opportunity. And I don't have anything to announce today, but that's what we're trying to endeavor.

So Nvidia wants to create a mobile cloud based sharing platform. Maybe they are Nintendo's partner? Because I never really thought Nintendo would be able to pull off anything like that, but if they are partnered with Nvidia ... that makes that SCD patent a little more plausible.

I found it!

Soundwave here it is:

Nvidia Shield Android TV is a mini console thats basically just a Tegra X1 chip.
It uses 19.4 watts on avg. doing a medium demanding game.

If nintendo is depending on the cloud to save their handhelds,... they are done for.

Cloud to assist in gameing is just pure fail in my opinion.

Its gonna to be used for crackdown 3? in multiplayer, but the cost for servers is gonna be massive, and I bet you its going to have tons of issues, and introduce weird input lag, server desync (much more often and much worse than normal) ect.

I think gameing is "healthier" and better the futher we stay away from cloud assisted computeing for it.

Cool, thanks for that. I wonder how much power savings they would get from shrinking to 14nm/16nm.

Ugh. Actual concrete details can't come soon enough. I will give it to the true Nintendo hardcores. They lap up every pellet of info that's dropped into the cage with a fervor that would make most crack addicts blush. The level of interest among them is almost unprecedented in gaming history. I'm not a Nintendo hardcore (anymore), and find the constant stream of rumors increasingly annoying. I'm off this shit until something ACTUALLY happens.

I don't see why the next handheld SHOULDN'T be powerful.

The handheld market is incredible. You can get 1080p displays with decent processors for only 100-200 dollars nowadays...and considering how the NX handheld only needs 480-720p and a decent chip, it should do well in terms of pricing.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Eh I'm not so sure about this Tegra X1 ... it's powerful for a mobile chip but it's pretty weak even against a XBox 360/PS3 it looks like:

This is Metal Gear Rising, the PS3/360 game head to head it's on the Tegra X1 (Shield Console) too ... the frame rate absolutely blows compared to the 360/PS3 versions.

And this is the full featured chip, that would be running at 20 watts, this would be way too hot for a Nintendo portable.

I would bet this is completely false.
