Not trying to defend the merketers in the article just commenting on the black James Bond thing.
I think it's annoying when characters who are already established are changed. I wouldn't want a black James Bond for the same reasons that I don't want a white Blade.

James bond isn't actually a real person even in the lore.  Its a code name that  assigned to any Agent 007.

So you just wouldn't want a black bond (here on out known as BB lol)...  has nothing to do with the actual story.

Secondly, it really doesn't matter who plays who as long as they do the role justice.

"Skyfall" directly contradicts this.

Don't take my word for it:

I think this thread needs moderating, not because of the people and their comments but because of the article. The article has much more context and amazing stories, yet some idiot journalist took out one small section of a very large article filled with info and turned it into ckickbait where it seems MS are racist or not letting Lionhead be creative. Anyone who reads the full article (it really is good and should be read for the amazing things which happened at Lionhead) would not only be better off than debating the clickbait nature of the out of context article, but would also learn a lot more about Lionhead, MS, development of several games and more.

I'm glad someone else actually read the full article.

Kinda funny how this one little marketing issue is blown up to portray MS as the bad guy, while if you read the article, Peter Molyneux was a far more destructive force on his own people. The whole Milo and Kate episode was all Molyneux which he simply couldn't let go. Several times during his career his ambitions got the better of him, which marked the turning points in the studio, adding to its ultimate demise.
The acorn. Or, according to one former Lionhead developer, "that fucking acorn." sums it up nicely.

He's a great visionary that inspired a lot of people and made some great things, yet not suited to lead a big development studio. I hope he can get back to former Bullfrog glory at 22cans, although Godus is not a good start.

Now, for all of those crying censorship and publisher interference with creative vision whenever a cleavage is altered, here you have the real deal.
Honest to god real life interference with the artists original intent. I expect your outrage please.

(Not trying to imply that editing the sexy bits is not cencorship btw., but this is just as much)

The marketing people often don't know shit either. Today's audience doesn't care about this stuff, if a game is good they'll buy it.

That's so no true, it's not even funny. Plenty of good games don't sell well for a number of reasons.

Haha, seriously, it's not even in the game, it's the cover.  Happens with novels all the time.  Not even close to changing the contents of a game itself.

The part the marketing team presented a dragon that wasn't even from the game was the best, lol, like "fuck your game, I want to promote that dragon because it's awesome!"

Not as funny as one Lionhead employee killing Molly's Tamagochi or the gay homwe gone wrong incident or the calling a stripper to the studio to surprise a member of staff and taking pics. Lionhead sounded like a party in their heydays.

Which is sort of my point. There's disproportional outrage over tiny edits that happen all the time. Be it the cover or in-game. Compromise of the artistic vision, be it for profitability, marketability or budgeting reasons are normal and happen on a daily basis.

Every book ever, every movie, every comic book and every video game go through major cuts and editing in the process of being made, sometimes much to their benefit, sometime to their detriment, but its a normal process.

But if you're ouraged over boob cencoring on the basis of compromised 'artistic integrity' should be as outraged over this. Otherwise they kind of expose themselves as hypocrites. If you just want boobs in games, at least have the balls to say so and don't give me an excuse to seem more legit.

The funny thing is that by all account, Fable Legends was Microsoft's vision as the team wanted to make the darker Fable 4... since Microsoft know so damn much about what appeals to gamers... and it failed. A massive fucking failure. So, this is just more reason to advocate developer agency. Publishers should at the very least believe in the product they are publishing and the ability of their developers to produce it.

This actually has parallels to Konami and its alleged interference with development. Microsoft invested $75 million into their vision of Fable and if fucking failed.

I still don't know what to make of Molyneux.  One paragraph, someone is talking about a brilliant idea he had, then the next, they're talking about him lying to the public and how his late additions almost screwed everything up.

The Milo and Kate stuff, though, even with his excuses, it just sounds like a disaster.  What he supposedly envisioned sounds like something that is still years away from being possible, even with VR.

Also, to be honest, some of those Lionhead guys seem like assholes.  They made a LOT of poor decisions even before the Xbox One mandates started rolling in.
