I think this is something that we have all speculated at anyways, but from the articles that I have read, it is all but confirmed. It looks as though Nintendo is switching back to ROM cartridges for storage on their new console. This makes total sense - especially if the handheld component is true because the ROMs could work in both systems. With the price of ROMs dropping to reasonable rates, and the storage capacity being higher than optical discs, this is the perfect time to switch back with no ramifications. There should be no price increase on the cost of games, and having one cartridge for universal play could prove to be a very savvy business move. What do you think that the plan is for game storage on the NX?

no price increase from using roms instead of disks? that's only if Nintendo wants to eat the costs. not to mention limiting the media capabilities (bluray/dvds)

having said that I'd be down with an online store only option that was cheaper. I'm 100% digital by now anyway

Wii U uses Macronix ROM, genius. The only thing confirmed is the lengths people will go to deny the inevitable digital only future.

I'd love a cartridge-based console, if anything just goes to push the idea of a shared library between HC/HH. Also, Nintendo has never cared for multimedia capabilities (no DVD reader, no Blue-Ray reader...), so just going full cartridge would not be that bad for them.

I've been thinking this for a while after they announced no NX at e3. Even if they have a crazy new controller they didn't want to show so there competition doesn't steal it we should still be able to see the box. They did it with the wii so why not NX unless showing us the box will give away that there leaving discs for cartridges! After the document for a disc less console and no box reveal at e3 I was 70% certain of cartridges but with this info more like 90% now!
