We don't have any idea of what the weights are. Some researchers were trying to figure it out, and found a pretty good match, but Metacritic said the weights were terribly wrong.
Basically you could have it set up where 1 reviewer gives the game a 0/10 and another reviewer gives it a 10/10, and metacritic could say because of the weights that the score is 7.5/10. Depending on how powerful the weights are, you can get some very differing results.

While i understand the sentiment behind Metacritic's weightings, they (at least as far as i can find) do it so lightly that it barley seems worth it. Their final scores are rarely more than 1 point outside of a game's actual rounded average. It seems like an awful lot of effort (and a frequent point of criticism at the site) for something so small.
To use the Uncharted series itself as an example:
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - 88 vs 88.64
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - 96 vs 96.19
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - 92 vs 92.23
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (as of 69 reviews) - 94 vs 94.63
Edit: Fixed UC2's 'proper' average (I thought it looked odd so i double checked it, and indeed i missed some 95's).
