It'd be almost impossible for NX to come anywhere close to the popularity of the PS4, people are fine with a traditional home console like the ps4, they don't want something "different", and for the sake of Nintendo I hope the NX is traditional and not some gimmicky garbage.

Speak for yourself: variety is the spice of life

Sure there are people that want different, but different will not be mainstream or relevant. I don't see what the NX can offer that will be revolutionary anyway, It'll just be a console.

It's going to be near impossible to get the third parties onboard with 50+ million ps4's already in the wild, as a PlayStation/Xbox/PC gamer what can the NX offer that will make people move to it as a primary system and not just for the Nintendo exclusives? And without the third party support the NX will not sell very well, however it will almost certainly do better than the WiiU.

If porting is easy enough, third parties will hop on.

Is multiplat not a thing anymore and no one bothered to tell us?

Actually yeah you're right my brain still hasn't woken up, unlike the WiiU the NX should have very close specs to the ps4/xbo, assuming they go for an x86 architecture then porting will be a breeze and the NX won't have any trouble getting third party support almost regardless of sales, derp.

Though this thread is about the NX being unique and different. Which if anything will turn the Third Parties off and make porting more of a chore.

I just don't see how the NX CAN be different, unless you can smell or feel or control the game via thought what could possibly BE different?

I just think it's going to be a traditional console or consoles with a much better online infrastructure, OS and Hardware than nintendo has created in the past.

No, it's still very much a thing.

The question with Nintendo is will these multiplats sell all that well ... the Wii U showed they don't, even the GameCube was pretty always third place for most multiplats with rare exceptions. Unfortunately some of the stereotype of Nintendo console owners mainly just buying Nintendo games is true.

Wii was mainstream and relevant at its peak: so much so that microsoft released kinect and sony released psmove in attempts to tap into the large casual surge right before android and apple took them away.

As long as they sell well enough to warrant the porting effort.

Yeah that's true but that was 10 years ago, THere are very few things I can think fo that would be different or new that could create something like that, VR is already happening, Motion Controls are old tech everyone is using, Wii Fit, heart rate monitors all that exists, voice control devices that can control every appliance in your house are a thing.

Hell even things like Shareplay, Remoteplay, Family Sharing, Crossbuy, Crossplay, Cloud Gaming are already things.

Unless I can control games with my brain or feel/smell the game world what new revolutionary feature could they release that would appeal to the mass market like the Wii did.

The only thing they can do is try and do what everyone is already doing but better.

Yeah if Nintendo is smart they would design the system and its development kits so that porting from PS4 or PC is incredibly simple and cheap to do, something that publisher could have done by a small handful of programmers in a very short time frame with no fuss.

That would be the most sensible thing to do, whether they chose to do that or get caught up in propietary "we're a special snowflake" type stuff remains to be seen.

Ideally it would be interesting if porting was so easy, that perhaps Nintendo could even do it themselves for certain games if a third party was unwilling (ie: if EA as usual becomes unwilling at some point to give Nintendo FIFA and Madden games, perhaps Nintendo could volunteer to handle the ports themselves and throw in Mario characters as a bonus).

This would be a way to ensure at the very least that the top franchises -- GTA, Madden, FIFA, COD, NBA 2K, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, are always on the system even if not many people are buying them it gives the library a certain amount of depth.
