Forums - Nintendo - NX very likely to flop....here is why: (my opinion)

NX or Wii U

NX 80 40.40%

Wii U 13 6.57%

Ps4. 105 53.03%

Total:198

Only thing I've got to argue is the time it releases. A) It's still technically during the fiscal holiday "period" and B) It's arguably launching at a better time than at Christmas - Tax return season. It will still be bought up in droves, we just have to see what the damn thing is and what the marketing looks like. Hopefully Nintendo has a very strong plan for the months leading up to launch.

Oh - and I didn't necessarily expect to see it AT E3 either, but at another online Nintendo "Event" so I think that we will see it shortly after E3 or maybe even during the same time period, but online and not at E3. Here's to hoping Nintendo is going at this the right way!

- Release in march / miss holiday season

- No e3 presence

- Teased as something "completly new"

- Nintendos recent decissions (Star Fox dual screen force, Splatoon map rotation and no voice chat, Amiibos) Its not like Nintendo is evolving in anything i like, to be honest they are getting worse and worse imo.

- Release mid cycle (Ps4 will already have games like: Witcher 3, Final Fantasy 15, Metal Gear Solid 5, Batman Arkham Knight, Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, Bloodborne, Dark Souls III, Battlefront, The Last Guardian, Dragen Age Inquisition, Destiny, The Division, Tons of fifa, cods, madden, assassin creed games, watchdog/watchdogs 2, Mirrors Edge Catalyst, Tomb Raider, Mass Effect Andromeda, GTA 5, Deus EX Mankind divided, No Mans Sky, Street Fighter 5, Tekken 7, Mortal Kombat X, Ratchet and Clank, Tons of great ps3 remasters.).

And what will the NX have in 2017? Zelda, Mario and metroid if we are really lucky. Sorry but thats not like a good competition.

March Release: I don't see this as a bad thing for Nintendo. Get away from the big Holiday 2016 release where Microsoft and Sony will be flooding marketing channel with Holiday bundles, their big holidays releases & The big VR push by Sony, Oculus RIft and HTC Vive.

No E3 Presence: Do your home work... The new Legend of #Zelda will be the focus of #E3 2016. It will launch simultaneously on both Wii U and NX in 2017. This guarantees a big E3 presence by NX. Zelda NX being the biggest release game for that new console.

Something "Completly new": When Nintendo claim their doing something completly new, that statement is meant only from a Nintendo point of view. The NX will be something completly new to Nintendo and if done right they will merge their handheld and consoles division to make unified games that can run on one platform.  NX power is completly new to Nintendo but will be similar to PS4 and Xbox one which will attract 3rd party port and support.

Nintendo recent decissions: Everyone learns from their mistakes. Look at Sony with the PS3 launch and Microsoft with DRM with Xbox one. While Nintendo have made some bad questionable decision it hasn't really stop them from giving great games on WiiU and 3DS. Nintendo will always be doing thing their way but in the end they still deliver some of the best games available on any consoles like Super smash bros, Zelda and Mario.

Release mid cycle: The NX being has powerful has current consoles and easier to port then WiiU this mean that 3rd party can easily port game to the NX. That mean games like Dark Soul 3, Rise of the Tomb raider, Final Fantasy 15, etc could all be coming to the NX to support the launch lineup. Nintendo already have improved their relation with Square Enix DQ 11 and Final Fantasy 7 remastered already in talk to be coming to the NX.

NX lineup: Sucessfull launch lineup is all about the games. NX will have a launch Zelda game that will be huge for them but let not forget that the lineup will include a Splatoon NX remastered, Super Smash Bros NX remastered, Mario Kart 8 NX remastered... all these game need is visual upgrade, add a few add-ons and give a value price $39.99 they will sell like crazy. While the rumors are raging about PS4.5 and Xbox one.5 developers are still going to have to supports game for current PS4 and Xbox one for the next 5 years. All of these game can be easily ported to the NX. Expect much improve 3rd party support on NX compared to the abismal support on the Wii and WIiU.

So you're finally on board with Nintendo going 3rd party then?

I want them to go 4th party.

I dont think it will be a tradional console. At best it will be something similar to the wii and adress Casuals. I doubt they will get good third party support (third partys hate "completly new" features they have to use, make porting more difficult).

The wii u was planned to get great third party support. That didnt happned, why?

Because of bad third party title sales and poor console sales on general.

With a march release nintendo will miss the holiday season which is extremly important for them (on of their biggest customer groups are children, they cant buy a console in march but get one for xmas).

These "bad" sales will overshadow at least the first half year of the NX => which makes it to a "wii u2". bad Third Party sales will stop third partys to develop/port games for NX, no third party support will stop people from buying the console.Doom loop.

Game droughts:

Even if Nintendo manages to get alot great games at launch and in first year, thats just possible because of the lacking wii u library.

In March 2017 Nintendo themself will released almost no big games for wii u for the past 2 years (only Mario Maker and Splatoon that are both more then 1,5 years away and MAYBE Paper Mario (dont know who is developing that).

All other games got made by external studios: Pokken (Bandai Namco); Zelda TPHD (Tantalus), Star Fox (Platinum Games)

If the NX is even more powerfull then the wii u, game development will even take more time and ressources. Games like Battlefront look extremly content lacking because so much ressources went into the graphics. Nintendo just have small teams, they cant make many of those games per year.

Nintendo also didnt hired many new developer for NX. The teams are still pretty much the same. Without third party support, NX will most likely get even less game then wii u.

Also:

Many Wii U Owners arnt satisfied. Well even many Wii Owners werent 100% satisfied with the console. Many old owner will most likely not buy a new nintendo system just again. Sony did it right with the ps3: Take a loss with the ps3 but satisfy the consumer. And now the ps4 is selling like hotcakes.

Thoughts?

"- Release in march / miss holiday season"

It's not that easy. We have two competitors and one of them has a very long stride. Especially in this year. October comes PSVR and a bunch of games (third and first). A new console with barely a fraction of the attraction during holiday season? I don't think that's a good idea. Rather wait, release during winter/spring - good season for games too -, gain traction and build up library.

Not that it won't flop though.

Didnt that already happen with the WiiU...?

...no. 13M is too high, the NX needs to flop harder.

Fewer and fewer core-gamers are interested in NIntendo-consoles and the casuals have smartphones to play games on, that is why NX will fail.

I never thought i would be on the NIntendo doom-train, i feel dirty

That sounds...cruel. "Continues to buy Nintendo products"

We should buy several each. Then when it becomes the rarest Nintendo product ever, we cash in
