Forums - Nintendo - NX launches March 2017 Globally

That's what I was implying, and I also added to my post before you replied that "if NX is only slightly more powerful than PS4 or Neo, then NX will find itself even further behind PS5/XB2 (if they come out) in terms of power than WiiU did compared to other consoles from that generation, and there will be a problem in this area again". Not that WiiU's power was the only reason third parties ignored the system, but it was one of the factors. And so when you release a new console not one year earlier than the rest, but potentially several years earlier, it's difficult to imagine any other outcome than developers having reservations of porting their games to NX. Unless it becomes a huge hit and sells a ton.

What I meant by secluded approach with the WiiU is that they chose to design a console that they wanted, without considering what other developers wanted. Some devs have mentioned in interviews that Sony and MS came to them and asked them what they would want to see in a new console. Nintendo didn't, and that they didn't want to makle games for that system.

That comes down to how well it does in the run up to the other 9th gens launching as well as how well the other 9th gens do themselves, as gen 7 showed it's impossible to predict because if it does well enough and then the other 9th gens don't do as well it turns things on its head. We also don't know what type of concept and features are behind the NX and whether it has both a portable sku and a home sku, these are things that shift the dynamic considerably.

Nintendo asked developers what they wanted with the Wii U it was even in the E3 showcasing it wasn't a secluded approach at all in fact Wii U is pretty traditional. Developers didn't make games because the platform didn't do well and that's what it comes down to. People on the forums may not like it but Nintendo are best when they make hardware to their approach and carve out their own space in gaming.

That's not the story that more than one developer has told in interviews. The story goes that "Sony and MS came to us and asked. Nintendo didn't."
If Nintendo went and asked developers, that's the first I've heard of it. If they did then I'd imagine it wasn't to many. And in either case, Nintendo didn't listen, because no one wanted 2GB of RAM, among other things. What we've heard from Mark Cerny was that most developers wanted the next gen consoles to be like a PC. That's why PS4 and Xbox One are built like that. So how come WiiU turned out so different if Nintendo really asked and listened to developer feedback?
And the reason they didn't develop for the WiiU wasn't just because it was doing badly. Some said that they didn't want to specifically because of the hardware.
Metal Gear Solid V was announced for PS3 and Xbox 360 in March 2013. That's only 4 months after WiiU launched. Do you think that was because of how WiiU had performed in that short time span? A few months after that, Kingdom Hearts 3 is announced for Xbox One, instead of on a console where it would make a lot more sense.

Mate it's not even up for debate it's in the E3 showcasing for the Wii U and was documented in the run up for the 2011 E3, 2GB RAM was added when the only other consolses had 500MB, I don't care what you claim you've heard but it's flat out wrong here Nintendo was speaking to developers back in 2010 when doing R&D the was no secluded approach.

Were you not following WiiU sales? 4 Months after launch it was clear something was wrong, MGSV was announced before Wii U even launched with GZ plus PS3 and 360 had 80m units each sold you really think developers would ignore them.

I'm starting to think that NX isn't a console after all..

-It won't simply replace Wii U or 3DS. If it was a console, why mention 3DS? It will replace them obviously as the next thing but it won't be a standard replacement.

-They are ignoring E3 as well as the typical launch period (Holidays)

Honestly, it could be anything involving gaming at this point.

yea, ppl have put forward quotes before that make NX look like a regular home console, but this newest one again seems to make a fusion console or maybe even a smartphone-like device a possibility

I'm not a Nintendo-fan, but I'm really interested what they'll reveal

Me too.

New consoles are always interesting to see, and they create a lot of buzz among the community, positive and negative.

Im really curious about what they are going to show, but if i was in Vegas i wouldnt bet a dime on Nintendo to tell you the truth.
