Forums - Sony - It Hurts me to Say That Ratchet and Clank is Disappointing

Agreed, however, you have plenty of voices in this thread disagreeing with the OP, so at least you know the reviews are subjective :)

Besides, I prefer my heroes when they're a bunch of unlikable assholes. :(

Funny that people are saying story is superfluous and emotional range doesn't matter, but when it comes to making a movie, that's all that matters. Why make a movie if you are going to make the character one dimensional and the plot dumbed down.

Also so what if the movie is being targeted at kids? Have you seen those Disney Pixar movies? Take a lesson from them, they don't treat kids like imbeciles who can't appreciate some depth and character development and only like movies that are fun and frivolity from start to finish.

I said the game is disappointing, not bad, there's a difference. For people who've never played the original they hardly have the same frame of reference.

Compared to the original game. Why? Not because of the gameplay, the gameplay is solid, if more of the same, which makes it not the best Ratchet and Clank game, but still a good in that department. Not because of the graphics obviously, the graphics are sweet. It's because of the story. This is the game of the movie of the game. But the original game has a better story and takes Ratchet on a much better emotional journey. In the original game Qwark is an actual bad guy, not just a weak character who regrets his turn to evil 5 minutes after being snapped by Ratchet. But worse is the complete lack of real reaction by Ratchet to having his great hero turn out to be weak willed and easily turned to becoming a baddie. In the original Rathcet really gets disillusioned and spends almost half the game being pissed off at the world and not really invested in the main mission. He's going through the motions and is just angry all the time and being dragged through the story by Clank's insistence on conbtinuing on the right course. In this reboot Ratchet spends about 1 minute being a bit bummed out, and then when called back into actions he's back to normal. Why is it that the movie ends up giving Ratchet less emotional range than the original game? And also shying away from Qwark being an actual bad guy and now merely a dupe.

I get they wanted to reimagine the story, and that's fine, but they reimagined it worse instead of better. And of course the movie will suffer as a result. Though perhaps the movie will spend more time with Ratchet in a negative funk about Qwark's betrayal; one can hope.

You do realise the story is from Qwarks perspective? and not the actual events that took place?

Which if anything is worse. If you think about it telling the story from that perspective should try to make Ratchet look worse in terms of behaviour and motivations. He's brave, heroic and plucky throughout. And Qwark looks like a weak ass coward, which again is not how you'd be telling the story if you are the egotisitical douche who is telling the story and wanting to make yourself look good.

Who said emotional range was bad? Ratchet wasn't deep in the first game, he was just kinda shitty.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I whole heartedly disagree. I guess I can understand from hearing your point of view about how disappointing it is. I found the game to be really enjoyable. I agree about how Ratchet treated Clank in the previous titles. I remember playing it in my dorm (military dorm) and getting angry with Ratchet a lot. LOL

No thanks, everyone knows Metacritic can't be trusted, especially after Resident Evil 6 score.

Well, I'll get the game today by mail so I'll try to give my opinion of it. Maybe it won't change your opinion on the series, but it will definitely be better to hear an opinion from a massive Ratchet & Clank fanboy.
