I'll take Soul Calibur over Tekken.
But I like my 2D fighters.
Street Fighter all the way!
Mortal Kombat II is good as well.

to be honest i hate 2d fighters so i'll pick a 3d fighter anyday. but this is cus i suck at button mashing and suck at street fighter!
i dnt really like dead o alive or virtua fighter... don't know why bu it hasn't got me hooked. soul caliber has plenty of balance in the characters. also any character has a chance to beat eachother. its pure fun!

I'm a "Soul" man. Soul Calibur has cooler charaters, storylines, and moves. Tekken is sterile by comparison. That's why I couldn't get into Virtua Fighter. --No personality. I've bought multiple games from each series, but I buy EVERY Soul Calibur/Soul Blade game.
dude don't its terrible. no amount of fan service can justify buying this game

"The king of the Iron fist tournament! Enter the Tekken!"
Loved when it said that at the end of Tekken 1.
Soul Calibur is also quite a good game, but for me the characters in Tekken are more memorable. So it gets my vote.

I have to agree with Duderino. Street Fighter 2 is a classic, still the best fighter out there. Other 2D fighters worthy of mention include Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct. As far as 3D fighters go, I'm proberbly not qualified enough to comment on Virtua Fighter, but I'd rate Soul Calibre and Tekken equally. Dead or Alive is the king of all button mashers IMO, and a poor alternative.
Tekken is not a button masher in the least. The game is very technical if you are any good. I know, my friends were ridiculously into the game and would travel around for tournaments and stuff. Soul Calibur is also very technical, as is Super Smash Brothers (technical in a different way, but arguably more technical).
We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke
It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...." Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson
Virtua Fighter>SoulCaliber>Tekken>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Dead or Alive
(in terms of depth, anyway.)
But the games really are very different. Virtua Fighter has the more technical approach, SoulCaliber is weapons-based, and Tekken is dial-a-combo. All of them are great, but I give the edge to VF.
DoA is terrible though.

The Board is the best site on the Internet.
Personally I prefer tekken, though I am probably a bit biased. Having said that my favorite fighting series is still street fighter.
