Forums - Gaming - If the PS4K is real, is now a better time than ever to build a gaming PC?

By every estimation, a $399 Neo PS4 clocking 4.2 Teraflops of power is going to be a better price/performance than any PC config that can also play VR by a country mile. Also, in order to stay 'relevant' with current PC tech, you will need to replace your GPU every 2 years or so. Higher end GPU's still make the PS4 seem really really cheap.

The amount of money you would need to spend to get top end PC graphics for 6 years or so would be incredible.

It's the worst time to buy a PC in this decade. This year AMD and Nvidia will move GPUs from 28nm to 14nm and AMD will also release a new CPU with complete new architecture and simultaneous multi-threading.

Wait a few months, and the answer is; possibly. Depends on your taste in games (and size of your wallet).

Wait a few months and he'll get the same answer =P.

I'm expecting the same answers for the next decade, hell I'll have the balls to say for 40 more years because it's becoming that predictable.

That's for everyone to determine themselves ...

If anyone deems that it's worth all the trouble of building your own PC along with a higher fixed cost for higher end systems then by all means go for it ...

Kablooeee! This exactly. Lock this thread.

You're probably right!

I think if PS suddenly became like a Steambox with individual upgradeable parts to mix and match you'd have a better point. As it stands the gen would just theoretically move a bit faster. Regardless of that and MS's Windows shenanigans, it's still as good a time as ever to build your own gaming PC (or will be once Pascal arrives).

It's not really that hard, you just have to sit and watch while noting the replies and watching a pattern form. Over the years it just adds up as being the same where there is hardly any change in the pattern, I can gurantee you that another thread will pop up sometime in the coming months to a few years sporting the same question and we'll be met with the same pattern of answers, over and over again because that's honestly how it plays out.

I got the PS4 went it came out about a year later I built a gaming machine and sold my PS4. Then about 6 months after that I sold my gaming PC and got a PS4 again. I can't stand using a mouse and keyboard EVER for gaming. I don't want to EVER use one and PC gaming isn't there yet. On top of that forget being competitive online without a mouse and keyboard.

Well VR on PC looks very exciting so saving some money waiting on the new GPU's and stepping in seems like a good step IF you own a VR headset, which is quite expensive, else I would deff try the playstation VR on your old PS4

The only reason I am still into console gaming is Nintendo. For all the rest, I got a PC. And this combo will probably stay the same for a while longer.
