Forums - Gaming - With Xbox One slim coming is PS4K a mistake?

to me, improve performance model is more attractive than just a slim model

Around the Network

I think the entire idea of an upgraded console is a bad idea. It’s a great way to make the early adapters feel cheated on knowing now they’re stuck playing future PS4 games at 30 frames which Sony boasted about 1080p and 60 frames at launch.
It’s like the PS4 was nothing more than a Beta console and the real deal is with Morpheus and Neo. Not that I care, more power will benefit new comers and games.
I think MS are smarter here, there happy with the hardware and build quality of the XB1 and don’t believe in changing it, goes to show that there mind isn’t just set on the graphics. I think MS don’t care if they don’t have the most powerful system on the market, if they wanted to they could announce an XB1.5 and double the PS4K specs just to shut up the forum trolls (Which any company can release powerful hardware) but seems like there not bothered. Want power, build a gaming rig. I get a good feeling the XB1 slim is going to look real sexy.

Morpheus and Neo.

Ha! That's awesome.

I would be surprised if MS isn't following the exact same incremental system as Sony. Spencer was the one who kicked off this speculation of upgraded consoles, after all, and there are plenty of rumors that MS is looking into upgrading its hardware as well. Also, no chance they allow the Xbox One to be the 4th most powerful console on market (if the NX rumors are true), especially with a Playstation Neo that absolutely clobbers it in terms of performance. I actually expect MS to go even farther with their upgrades.

Xbox One Slim will not be $199. $249 at the lowest, and PS4 can always go down to $299.

PS4 has been outselling XB1 at a higher price for quite some time now.

Depends on wether the "standard" PS4 do or dont go down in price. If it dont, I see XOne gaining some traction, but maybe not enough to cover the ground it lost.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

So with all the rumours of Microsoft unveiling the Xbox One slim at E3 for a release later this year along with all the recent talk of an upcoming PS4.5, PS4K or NEO as people are calling it which is also very likely to be revealed at E3.

If Xbox releases a new cheaper slim model is trying to push a more expensive or same priced "upgraded" console with a PS4.5 really a good idea?

We could potentially have a holiday price tag of $249 or even (imo) $199 compared to a PS4 at $299 and a PS4K up at $349 -$399, With the lead and momentum Sony currently has with the PS4 such a difference in price along with the most recent rumour that could potentially fracture the userbase eventually it would hurt them and give Xbox a chance to gain some sales back to shorten the gap.

Opinions?

Of course all these rumours may be nothing and Sony could have a PS4 slim lined up as well for later this year.

The PS4 was $299 last year.  During the holiday, it would be $249.

Regardless of MS's strategy I think this PS4.5 concept is a terrible idea and I strongly hope that this will never become the standard procedure.

No, because nobody is going to go "I'm not buying a PS4 because the NEO made it obsolete! I'll go buy a less powerful Xbox One instead!"

Especially considering that even best case scenario the PS4 will still only be $50 more expensive than the Xbox One Slim.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

No he was not actually, Sony talked about this before the PS4 launched.

That is from 2013. I am absolutely certain I've read articles from the same time period where Sony more directly talks about the idea of mid cycle hardware upgrades, but it's becoming hard to find them now that the Internet is flooded with ps4k posts.

@OP - it's too late for the Xbox. MS knows that. Why do you think they're shifting focus to PC?
