I would reverse the question. With PS4K coming, is XBox One slim a mistake?

People already complain about the power difference between the XBone and the PS4, and with the PS4K coming, there is going to be a flood of used PS4, at a cheaper price, maybe for less than 300€. And whether or not the original PS4 getting a pricecut or a slim model is yet to be seen, so that might affect the price too. Is not following the PS4K example going to put the XBox One in a worse spot it already is?

Majority of the fanbase don't really care about how powerfulll the console is and the only people really complaining about power of the consoles is forum monkeys like us lot on VGChartz :D and the same people will likely moan about how underpowered the PS4K is this time next year and everytime a new console is released, Sony could continue selling the PS4 without any spec upgrade for another few years easily and still buy it anyway.

But a more powerful PS4 would mean the standard specs for running games are set on a higher bar, slightly annoying original PS4 users, but greatly affecting the performance of titles on the XBone, that is already having difficulties matching the PS4 in performance.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I see what you mean as all the comparison videos would be Xbox One vs PS4K rather than Xbox One vs PS4 as it currently is and showing of a bigger gap between the 2 consoles and is defiantly a fair argument. A lot of people will think that buying a standard PS4 is pointless now and need the newer PS4K and then see that the Xbox slim is at $249 compared to a $399 PS4K, That is a massive gap and may just lead people to go for the X1 and would surely affect parents buying a console for there kids with a price difference of $150.

I think everything the past 2 years and 6 months have shown us is that short of giving it away there's nothing MS can really do to de-rail the PS4 train.

Nope, they always set the bar bearing in mind the lower specs. If Sony holds true to their word, the PS4 Neo will always be hold back by the PS4 Base. It's very unlikely that it will affect the Xone in any way.

If Xbox slim can reduce the price of Xbox One then it's going to do great for Microsoft. PS4k is a shot in the foot by Sony for early adopter of PS4. PS4 is the fastest selling consoles of all time on pace with PS2 but now Sony is going make the PS4 obsolete just 3 year into the console life and replace it with a new more powerful skew.

Nope. Sony would have to make some terrible, terrible mistakes for the momentum to shift now.

Like fracturing their userbase and generating discontent amongst PS4 owners by releasing an upgraded Console wth exclusive content for it ? PS4K is very close to be an imense mistake for Sony, they need to reasure ppl beyond shadow of doubt the 4K stuf is not going to have exclusive content to it and that all games will also run on PS4, 1 exclusive game to PS4K is enought to send ppl into a rage believe me.

Can you point out anywhere in the world where, outside the US and the UK, this will be relevant? There is nothing that Microsoft can do that will make people choose a Xbox one over a PS4...no matter what iteration.

Not really because the base PS4 will likely get a price cut down to 299 (which will still be more powerful than the Xbox One mind you)

Compared to the size of an Xbox One, the current PS4 already is a slim model.

Indeed. That's not including the monolithic power brick that comes with the XBO. Vat is dis? The time of Charlemagne?
