Forums - Sony - PS4.5/PS4K Is Codenamed 'NEO' And More Info

None of this contradicts the earlier leak saying that many PS4 versions of games would run like ass because they are built work with the PS4K first. I don't think anyone thought there would be exclusive games or content, just that their old hardware would basically become obsolete which still sounds like it will happen.

None of which really matters. It's an extremely forward thinking move that everyone will be doing eventually.

Extremely forward moving? In what way? Putting your customers on a 3 year purchasing cycle instead of 5-6? Creating more environmentally hazardous garbage faster for the landfill? Having to retool the factory, upgrading when you've only sold 40 million of the old sku worldwide and your no where near saturation? Your about to release psvr and sell even more or the OG sku but your going to create a confusing market for new customers?

Forward thinking is releasing a ps4k  for Christmas 2017, and saying ps4k can play ps4 games, and ps4 can play ps4k games but at reduced settings.

Ps4.5 neo if true as written, is a big big mistake.

You will remember me when A) The games on PS4 NEO will look absolutely the same than the regular PS4, so people will be raging about how the new console is worthless. B) The game will be optimized for the NEO and will run like shit on the regular PS4.

On this era of patches and DLC, dividing a userbase will be catastrophic.

You keep doomsaying man. The XB1 is significantly weaker than the PS4, but people aren't bitching about how horrible their experience is. Most XB1 fans vehemently argue that their experience is pretty much the same.

If my experience isn't that much better than the regular PS4 -- so what. At least i get upscaled games that will look better on my 4K -- then letting the built in upscaler fuck up my dark scenes (Take a look at how bad out of focus backgrounds get on an upscaled netflix video on the PS4).

You make no sense at all. People play on consoles for plug and play, this will not change that.

I want to know why you play on consoles.

To have the same experience as everybody else, which makes the developers work easier.

We have been receiving games that are an absolute mess when it comes to framerates and resolution, do you think that a more powerful console will solve this?

On the contrary, it will make things worse.

To have the same experience? How would you experience be any different? By one user having better textures and shadows? If you actually care that much, then why aren't you playing on PC? PC gamers are having a better experience than PS4 users. Why then? When the NX comes out and let's say it's way more powerful than the PS4, are you going to complain? Because NX users will most likely have better graphics? That's just ridiculous.

Again, you are complain about frame rate issues, why aren't you playing on PC then? If you really care that much. Frame rate issues have always been a problem on consoles.

"There is only one race, the pathetic begging race"

If there is a significant performance jump, there is problem.

ROFL dude --

How is this any fucking different other than name? PS4 can play PS4.5, and PS4.5 can play PS4 games.
Guess what -- the PS4 just runs it at reduced settings.

I cannot believe people keep spreading these silly rumors.

Sony's goal as a company is to make a profit. Reducing the cost of your console while keep the specs relatively the same will help you sell more consoles. This lets you sell more games and more peripherals, which earns you more money (they don't make any money on the console).

Making a more expensive console is not going to help them sell that many more consoles. And I don't think this would do much to way potential XBox buyers to the Sony camp.

Someone please explain to me why Sony would spend time and money to develop a slightly faster console? How would any of this benefit Sony?

Why wouldn't they just make a PS4 Slim unit, taking advantage of current technologies to make the console smaller / quieter / cheaper? The only real upgrade they should add is HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2, to support the current generation of 4K TVs (and some people have mentioned they should upgrade the Bluray drive to UHD capable, but I still have my doubts they would do this).

Why would they do this...

Because they are on a x86 architecture allowing them unlimited backwards compatability of both games and the OS. Because Nintendo was planning on dropping a console mid generation that if what is rumored would cause the power split to favor NX. Because Xbox was/is planning on doing it, and they do not want to get caught with their dicks in their hands. Because they could milk more hardware revenue from people like me. And cause VR.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.  I don't believe the Nintendo NX rumours, since launching a much more powerful console would make it much more expensive than the PS4 / XBox One, and with them having a 60+ million install base, the NX would be dead on arrival.  Sony makes next to nothing from the console sale, so unless you start buying 2 of each game (one for each of your consoles), Sony would just lose money.  You have a good point about VR, as a more powerful console would help it against the Rift and the Vive, but in my opinion that is still not worth it.

It honestly costs sony nothing, and instead costs the developer time. However, as almost all games coming to PS4 also come to PC -- it does not cost them much. They simply take some of the enhanced PC features and add it to the baseline PS4 version, up the resolution/framerate and call it a day.

I dont understand how my point is not understood.

When 100 million users have the same machine, and im talking about THE SAME machine, the developers dont have to worry about numbers. They have a standard devicer to program for.

If you add to the equation, 2 or more skus the problems will star happening.

Where are we living? In LaLa Land? We are well aware of the issues that we have been getting lately with the performace of games, this will make things worse.

I play on consoles because of the simplicity, for me and the developers.

I dont want to game on the PC because i dont want to worry about specs.

I have downloaded patches this gen that weigh the same as the fucking game, im not being a half empty kind of guy, im just being realistic.

This WILL make things worse.

The idea is stupid and i hope it stays as a rumor.

Customers aren't on a 3 year purchasing cycle. That's the same bullshit reasoning that people criticize Apple for. This is NOT for current PS4 owners. It's not even remotely meant to be an upgrade. Why would any company waste money making a product that won't grow the installed base?

It's for future PS4 owners. You may be getting the shit end of the stick, but that's how technology works now. Be glad they're allowing you to even play PS4 games for another potentially 5 years on the system you bought at launch.

The market won't be confused. Get out of your bubble. The iPhone exists, and that upgrade model made Apple the single most powerful tech company in the world. Sony waited a year longer than they even needed to. Everyone and their mother understands what an incremental upgrade is. They live it with everything they own.

No one is saying that it won't negatively effect PS4 owners. Obviously it will.

But it definitely won't negatively effect sales.
