Or. Games will just be developed with the PS4 4K and PC in mind (Ultra graphics) and continue the practice of downgrading the games for the regular PS4. (High equivalent graphics.)

1) We have no idea if the PS4 4K will use Polaris.

2) If you think 218GB/s is enough bandwidth for 4k AAA games, then... You are highly mistaken, I am going to assume you have never used high-end hardware and thus never gamed at resolutions that exceed 1080P... So allow me to educate you on this... Higher resolutions need allot of bandwidth.

3) Some non-graphics calculations are suited to being executed upon the GPU, some are not. - Because some calculations are very single-thread heavy, which a GPU is not adept at due to their highly parallel nature. There is a reason why CPU's and GPU's are still seperated functionally, because a CPU is adept as some tasks, the GPU is adept at others, both can do a "little" bit of each others work.

This isn't for 4K gaming, I think the term "PS4K" just got thrown around mistakenly probably because it does allow for 4K Blu-Ray movie playback. PS4.5 is more accurate, it's a huge GPU upgrade with a moderate CPU upgrade.

Yep; nobody ever talked about AAA Games running at 4K; and as we don't know for sure if Polaris will be used, our friend above also have no idea how the new architecture works, how much more efficient it is, and how much more memory compression is used, improved shader efficiency, hardware scheduler, instruction Pre-Fetch, etc etc; so, I would say again, let's try not to be rudiculous, and let the experts work on it, they know more than us ;)

Does anyone know how this will translate in terms of difference in games?

Have you seen Uncharted4 ? Ok, now multiply it by two ! :)   kidding aside, exclusive games will look AMAZING, and multiplatform games on par with high end PCs, at least for a good year. Good enough ?

Thats fine, Sony's first and second class gamers will be better off than the current (and their future) competetion.  Its a win-win for Sony

Haha :D

1. Then why is Sony not supporting the PlayStation Vita like Nintendo is supporting the Nintendo Wii U?

2. And why is Microsoft constantly making XBox One improvements with Updates for XBox One and Sony not?

3. Why does the XBox One has EA Access and the PlayStation 4 not?

4. And why the fucking hell is PSN always down instead of just working like Nintendo  and Microsoft online games???

5. And why cant you change your fucking PSN username?

6. Why has Microssoft and Nintendo backward compatibillity and Sony PlayStation 4 not???

JUST WHY???

:D

2. I take you don't own a PS4. It has received just as many nice updates and features as XB1 like Share Play, Cross Play (PC), Remote Play (Vita + PC), PS Music (Spotify), PS Now, PS Vue, Rest Mode, Media Player, etc. My friends on XB1 actually say Windows 10 has done more bad things than good.

3. Personally I wouldn't subscribe to EA Access if it was on PS4 but it'd be nice if PS4 owners had the choice. I just hope we won't be seeing every single publisher creating their own "Access".

4. Again, I take you don't own a PS4. PSN has improved tremendously. Of course the monthly 2 hours maintenance "downtime" would be nice to avoid but if you've logged in beforehand you can still play online. I've had a fair share of problems with the network on my Wii U. Imo PSN is far superior.

5. I agree with you on this one. Users should be able to change their user name. Maybe once every 6 months to prevent trolls constantly changing names. And it shouldn't cost any money (Microsoft charges $10 per name change).

6. Backwards compatibility would indeed be a nice feature. PS4 doesn't have it for 2 reasons. 1 because Sony hopes to be able to earn money on PS Now so that they're prepared for a future without fixed hardware. 2 because PS3 games are close to impossible to emulate on even the strongest hardware.

What console(s) you prefer is subjective. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses. I wonder why you didn't include any strengths of PS.

7. Why does Sony strive to build a varied library and even greenlight games that won't sell millions?

8. Why does Sony secure strong 3rd party support for PS4 owners?

9. Why does Sony allow users to share games through Share Play and Account Sharing?

10. Why doesn't Sony put apps like Netflix and HBO behind a paywall?

11. Why does Sony allow indies to self publish?

12. Why did Sony sell a stronger PS4 for less money than a weaker XB1?

(you can spice it up with a few "the fucking hell" yourself)

It's a shame if you're banned for that comment because I'd like to see a constructive response from you.

Just tell me what I've got wrong. It's not that hard mate ;)

Could I be more critical? Probably, yes. But I'm not that critical in general and I don't understand how people manage to hate so many things (on the internet at least). If you don't like something, don't buy it.

When the rumored NX controller was shown and most users shouted "Shitty control" I looked forward to how good it was probably going to be implemented and the new opportunitites it'd bring. When Quantum Break was released on PC and many users shouted "Shitty port" I bought the game and ended up enjoying it massively. Etc.

As long as I'm enjoying life it's not too bad :)

Yeah I'm not buying the PS5 at launch now either. I haven't played enough of my PS4 thus far, had I known this is how things were going to go down, I'd have waited for PS4.5.

I don't mind iterative upgrades per se, but if Sony was going to adopt this model, they should have been honest from the get go and said so.

I don't think anything was set in stone.  Back last year "Ito-san immediately clarified that he has nothing specific to announce, but the adoption of the X86 architecture, made performance improvements in due time possible. Yet, Ito-san continued, the real question is whether those improvements should be made or not." Although PR spin would be inevitable eitherway, I don't think sony would have taken a decision like this lightly. Deciding on something like this before the PS4 was even out would be kind of stupid.

I'd imagine PS5's iterative upgrades would  be built into its functionality and extrernal add ons will be available as well as repackeged boxes.

BioWare Founder on PS4/Xbox One Upgrades: It'd Be a "Gigantic Pain in the Ass"

We recently had the chance to speak with retired BioWare co-founder Greg Zeschuk, who said he is not very keen on the idea of a mid-cycle upgrade. If a developer had to support two different platforms at the same time (the latest speculation is that Sony's new PS4 will run ultra-HD games and standard PS4 games), it could create a major headache, the RPG luminary told us, though it wouldn't be unprecedented.

"I'd say that'd be a gigantic pain in the ass that flies in the face of the purpose of consoles," he said. "It's funny, there's actually some stories behind that. For example, the original Xbox...Microsoft actually had multiple different DVD drives. They didn't tell anyone that, but as a developer you discovered that you have different performance and sometimes you'd have these boxes of refurbished drives and different brands and different equipment. It caused incredible variability."

Zeschuk went on to say the benefit of having locked system specs as consoles currently do is that it's clear to developers what they are working with.

"The whole purpose of consoles is the set of requirements that you work against from a hardware perspective," he said. "To change that is complete lunacy."

"I just think it's bad," he said. "I think, 'lock it' and let developers do their thing. But at the end of the day, if you can focus your development effort on one set of hardware requirements and target, you are going to get a better result. It's easier than having to split it, adding more people, having to port things across."

"It's like dipping your toe back into the PC pool where you have to consider all these things. It was nice on console not having to consider like performance sliders. But it's just crazy. I guess maybe [Microsoft and Sony] feel the need to."

Dont worry guys, he is just one of the founders of a small irrelevant studio called Bioware, a peasant you could say.

Lets keep reading the experts here about how it will be just a tiny tweak to port games on both the PS4 and the PS4 NEO.

Dont be a sour apple like him, just listen to the VG experts!

GribbleGrunger said:

Sony seems committed to keeping the NEO and the original PS4 player bases connected. As such, there will be no NEO-only games, and Sony will not let developers separate NEO users from original PS4 players while playing on PSN. Likewise, Sony explicitly and repeatedly states that developers cannot offer exclusive gameplay options or special unlockables for NEO players—so don’t expect NEO owners to get a level editor or a special Rocket League car that you won’t have access to on your original PS4.

This bit is all I need to know. It means Sony is doing this right, it also means I won't be buying a PS4K unless my PS4 fails.
