According to EEDAR WiiU already outsold Vita worldwide 1st of January 2016. Where they got their estimations from - I don't know.

They also have the 3ds at 10 million less than Vgchartz lol

Someone made a point about how it may not be tracking the New 3DS/XL. Since Nintendo reported that the 3DS is around 58mil by the end of 2015.

From that chart it looks like its around 50mil. Im not sure if  8mil New 3DS/XL sounds right........

Well easy way is for Sony to give Da DATA.

Maybe, a hollow victory it would be. Depends on the holiday season, and whether or not NX greatly impacts WiiU's. I admit though I thought this would happen ages ago, but the WiiU continued to amaze me.

As far as VGC is concerned anyway; I think in reality WiiU has been ahead for some time now, no way Vita has been doing this well in Europe. But I digress, no real way to know anyway. At least not until Sony finally decides to release some shipment numbers.

Nah, it's much more fun to see people get worked up over things with no data :p

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Wii U has already passed the Vita. The shipment gap by the end of September 2015 could be reasonably estimated to be only a few hundred thousand units in favor of the Vita, then the Wii U had easily the better holiday quarter.

Just because I am curious.

End of 2015:

US Wii U 5m, Vita 2.5m

Japan Wii U 3m, Vita 4.5m

Spain (June 2015) Wii U>100k, Vita >700k

Gap: Wii U <400k

Q1 2016:

Japan Wii U 110k, Vita 296k

US Wii U 175k, Vita ~44k

Gap: Vita by 55k

In 3 countries Wii U only leads by <345k. I think Vita sales in Spain for rest of year and Portugal and many other rest of world sales are much much higher then Wii U.

For example 1: Wii U has not launched in China but Vita has.

Example 2: Vita launched in Brazil march 2012, Wii U launched Nov 2013 (1 year after launch, 1 year 9 months after Vita) and ended Jan 2015.

Example 3: In fact Nintendo has very little presence in all of Latin America, including the large market of Mexico.

I think you would be very hard pressed to say that Wii U has outsold Vita.

Well Spain has a 600k lead in favor of Vita, so I think it would be very hard for Wii U to find a lead that big with all the other countries combined.

Nah, the NX will hurt it a lot, and the Vita won't sell great either but its still getting more third party support in Japan than the Wii U ever did

It will be neat!

End of 2015:

US Wii U >5m, Vita < 2.5m / >2.5m gap

Japan Wii U > 3m, Vita < 4.6m / < 1.6m gap

JP+US = Wii U by >900K

About Spain, last Wii U numbers we have are back in December 2013, which have Wii U at > 80k. No way is only a bit over 100k in 2015, it's most likely over 200k. While Vita was at 600k, not 700k in June.

In France and Germany Wii U sold 1.43 million, i hardly see PSV that high since we know it sold only 60,000 in France in 2015.

As for China, Vita sold some insignificant numbers like 20k in one month according to an estimate... even if we say now is 100k, that's still very poor.

Vita is definitely not less then 2.5m as I stated in this post: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=7855123

As for Spain my bad , but it is obvious that the gap is more then 500k there. Wii U sold 100k in 2 years and likely  has not improved. http://www.gamereactor.eu/news/264764/PS4+smashes+Xbox+One+and+Wii+U+in+Spain/

By end of 2015 I believe 700k vita vs 200k Spain is reasonable. Portugal also acts similarly to Spain and adds more lead to Vita.

Vita sales are probably equal to Wii U in Germany since it is Sony dominated.

France is more Nintendo dominated. How much more do you think Wii U sold then Vita in France? I do not think it can close the gap of Spain.

And you ignored Latin America, especially the large markets of Brazil and Mexico. Do you actually think Wii U has a lead there? Mexico market is about as big as Spain so the potential sales difference there could be quite vast.

There are notable markets like France and Germany where the Wii U does rather well in comparison to the countries where its sales are abysmal. Conversely, the Vita does horribly there.

The shipment estimate I talked about was ~11m for the Vita by the end of September 2015. The Wii U was at 10.7m at that point.

Wii U might have little to no presence in the markets you mentioned, but not even the PS4 sold a lot in China, and the Latin American countries have high taxes on video games, so consoles sell all that great. That goes doubly so for systems that aren't popular to begin with. And while the Wii U might not be sold in Brazil anymore, recently we learned that the Vita is over in the Netherlands. The same should hold true for Switzerland where GfK (or whatever the official tracker is) stopped to release Vita software charts in October 2015. In Germany the Vita hasn't had a title in the overall top 100 in a long time, so there are strong indicators that the Sony handheld has been as good as dead in Central Europe for a while now. Basically, what the Wii U doesn't have in America and Asia is offset by what the Vita doesn't have in Europe.

But back to shipments, the Wii U sold almost 1.9m during the holiday quarter last year. Vita maybe 1m, who knows. It's more likely than not that the Wii U is ahead of the Vita, but of course there's no way to know for sure.

@bold how much more do you think France/ Germany Wii U sold compared to Vita?

The Spanish (and Portugese) gap cannot be ignored in terms of total Europe sales. It would be hard for Wii U to topple that with the other countries.

The difference between Brazil and Netherlands/switzerland is that Brazil is a much bigger market. Brazil/Mexico/ China are decently big markets and surely have Vita leads.

@italics even if this shipment gap is true, it would only point to Europe as being stronger for Vita then Wii U due to the vast difference in sales in the US.
