Forums - Sales Discussion - March 2016 NPD Thread! Hardware and software up!

It will be interesting to see if Quantum Break and its good reviews will do anything to change the NPD landslide away from PS4 in terms of hardware sales?

Is it still too early to say Microsoft need to just focus on doing things right next gen, if there is a next gen for them?

I'm not sure you know what you are talking about :-/. I think you mean "Mediocre reviews". Quantum break isn't being torn apart critically like The Order 1886 was, but its not getting praise above saying its an okay game -- but not great. At the same time, you have a PS4 exclusive platformer that is both outselling and outreviewing it. Quantum break will do nothing to help MS PS4's success.

Quantum Break (77 Critic / 7.5 User Score):

Ratchet and Clank (86 Critic / 8.7 User Score):

Lastly, QB is an M rated game -- that means its only accessible for adults/ teenagers and parents that don't give a fuck. R&C is another game to add to the Sony collection that is accessible to everyone (not overly kiddy... but is still okay for children).

Oh wow, it's been YEARS since the last time I posted here. And I'm very happy to see Aqua's presence again somewhere. So sorry for what happened to GAF, it made me quite...angry, who can deny it. Still, glad to see you again :D

And thanks for your contribution here, great stuff.

If possible, could you satisfy two of my requests? :P More specifically

- Bayonetta 2's LTD
- How much the Nintendo Selects sold. Since NPD include Selects in the overall total, maybe we should see the difference between February NPD and March NPD for those games to get a top limit for how much they sold

One more data point you can add to the OP:

1. Tom Clancy’s The Division (PS4, XBO, PC) - 1.796m (including bundles)

Platform breakdown:

PS4: 928K

XBO: 844K

2. Far Cry: Primal (PS4, XBO, PC) - 318k (including bundles)

Platform breakdown:

PS4: 179K

XBO: 139K

Please note: All other SKUs sold below Far Cry Primal (so <179K for all other PS4 SKUs, and <139K for all other XBO SKUs).

I'll ask if I can share more data regarding this month. If I get denied then I'll stop posting leaks this time around.

Aqua i really hope we will see you again in the April NPD thread, May, June, and well, always.

Thank you Aqua!

Division bundle did pretty bad. Damn that did not work out.

Won bet with t3mporary_126 - I correctly predicted that the Wii U's LTD at the end of 2014 would be closer to 9 million than 10 million. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6673287

Nice thanks!

So the PS3 version of MLB is selling pretty decent.

Just 24k for the bundle... That's bad.

Edit: Maybe less than 24k. Don't know if 1796k includes PC.

There's another way to be right. If money is limited, the money goes to the best games. Twilight Princess HD and Pokken are both superior to The Division, so if someone could only buy one or two of the three games, what would they be? Exactly.

In other words, in order for sales of the bestselling titles to notably decrease, there would have to be equal or superior alternatives, otherwise it doesn't matter whether there are 2 or 200 games releasing per month.

Well to say Twlight Princess HD and Pokken is better than Division is just subjective. Millions of people bought that game because they like open world grindy rpg games and I'm sure there would be many Wii U owners who would have bought the Division over Pokken and TP. And of course they're can be many who wouldn't want the Divsion but the point is there would still be a unknown amount and no matter what that amount is, it would result in lower sales for TP and Pokken.

Again, what you are saying is just subjective. It doesn't matter if the exclusives are better than the multiplats, there would still be people buying Destiny, CoD, Fallout, GTA, if they were on Wii U. And again, consumers don't have unlimited money, they have to pick from a selection of games.

It just doesn't result in exclusives getting lower sales, it would also result in multiplats getting lower sales. It's really just common sense, I'm not sure why any of you are trying to argue it. Just like launch games, they have higher sales, why? Because there are only a few games consumers can buy.

Can you guys actually say that if a person only had $60 to spend this month, and they had to buy 1 game, that they would only choose Pokken and TPHD instead of, let's say Dark Souls 3? No, that's just ridiculous.

EDIT: I mean holy shit, just recently people were saying that Ratchet was going to die because it was releasing next to Uncharted. Why would they say that? Because they could only pick 1 game to play, if Ratchet was released close to Uncharted, it would have a lot lower sales. It's common sense.

I think is funny how you say this when there are two games for Wii U in TOP TEN this month lol.

Seriusly stop here. There are a lot of bomba on Wii U, with this logic all games should sells million.

Honestly, I can never understand what you are trying to get it and this post is not different. Read what I had to say above or w/e.

how in the world do you come to that conclusion?

Read what I said above.

what you said above doesnt dispute what I previously said, Nintendo games will always take top priority on Nintendo consoles, this has remained true for all Nintendo devices including ones that had strong3rd party support.

People didnt buy Twilight Princess or Pokken Tournament because they had no other options, they bought them because they wanted those games.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Oh wait, shit, I forgot, I was allowed to put one more in the Top 10:

March Top 10:

1. Tom Clancy’s The Division (PS4, XBO, PC) - 1.796m (including bundles) (928K PS4, 844K XBO)

2. Far Cry: Primal (PS4, XBO, PC) - 318k (including bundles) (179K PS4, 139K XBO)

3. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD (Wii U) - ~308k

4. Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3, PC)

5. UFC 2 (PS4, XBO): ~285K

6. MLB 16: The Show (PS4, PS3) - ~275k

7. Pokkén Tournament (Wii U) - ~251k

8. NBA 2K16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3) - 234k

9. Call of Duty: Black Ops III (XBO, PS4, 360, PS3, PC) - 223k (524k including bundles)

10. Minecraft (360, PS4, XBO, PS3) - ~195k

I thought I put that in there...and it's too late now as this topic is old...might as well for the sake of consistency.
