Forums - Sony - Nep-nep fans. I have a dilemma. (Voiceovers)

With the expection of the PS4 version, I have every Hyperdimension Neptunia game in either physical or digital form on Playstation systems.  And finally, and I mean FINALLY, I can sit down and enjoy Hyerdimension Neptunia Re;birth1 on the PSTV.  But my question is, Japanese or English voiceovers?  But it's not your typical "which voiceover should I choose" question.

I normally prefer hearing the Japanese voices over English, and this is no exception with Re;birth1.  Another plus is that ALL dialogue is voiced in Japanese while only SOME dialogue is voiced in English.  But because I cannot understand Japanese, I dont know what the characters are saying while in battle, but I found that what they do say in English and how they say it is quite fitting for this game.  As most Nep-nep fans know, these games are not to be taken seriously, and there is a light hearted tone that makes the game what it is because of its parody approach.  The dialogue in battle in English is spunky, playful and helps paint the character's... character.  It really adds to the battles, but I do love hearing the Japanese tones when ALL dialogue is voiced in Japanese.  But because of the battles, I'm reluctantly leaning towards English, but only just by a little.

So how do you feel about this, and what would you guys prefer to do?

I think you can get used to any voices, i always prefer languages i can understand so i can focus on the story better and enjoy the game more overall. Even on Resident Evil i prefer having german voice acting now since Res6, but i defeniatley try english voices when ever i make a second playtrough.

Neptunia is pretty much the only franchise in which I prefer the English voices over the Japanese ones, simply because it the voice actors are actually good. While not every scene is voiced, you can simply switch to japanese for the few scenes which aren't.

Never tried the Japanese VO, but imo the English VO is fantastic.

Yes, changing between Japanese and English is VERY convenient.  But as the OCD type, I'm sticking to one so it's all consistant.  And not to discredit the voice actors, maybe the English voiceovers were done quite well because the game is not to be taken seriously to begin with.  But then again, I've only gotten tothe second dungeon.

I always use english when I can. Japanese VA is often too cringy for my taste

I think people are being quite kind to English dub. It's not awful, but I ended up sticking with JP voices after about an hour of English dub. What they say in battle are just catchphrases or nonsense battle crys (Nepu-nepu!), so I don't consider it a big ordeal. I would stick with the JP dub, it's more consistent and is HQ.
