Forums - Nintendo - So I made some digital purchases on my WiiU and 3DS...

Basically I am looking for reassurance that I made the right choice.  I mean I have been back and forth with this.  I pretty much have the entire canon Zelda timeline games in my collection now, but for the sake of convenience I went digital for all games pre Nintendo DS.  So basically...

Legend of Zelda

Zelda 2 Adventure of Link

Links Awakening DX

Oracle of Ages

Oracle of Seasons

Minish Cap

A Link to the Past (kind of, also have this on GBA due to Four Swords)

This ran me about 40 bucks, where as going to amazon and getting old carts would have been roughly 160-170 bucks (provided I got all ports for GBA since it is BC).  As far as Value goes...no brainer lol.

So now my WiiU and 3DS is basically my physical media for these games, but under one hub.  Cool and convenient.  However, what if my WiiU breaks?  I mean like decades down the road if Ninty goes belly up, there will be no network to redownload and no Nintendo to call to do a transfer of network ID.  Hopefully Ninty will be around for my lifetime, but I am a worst case scenario kind of guy.

So my mentality is I have my physical media in to form of my systems.  If something happens to them in a time when redownload is not possible, I will have much more to replace than if I had individual carts.  If nothing happens, no problem.  Also let me be clear I am collecting for a complete library to go back to anytime, value overtime is a non factor to me unless I am buying.

So what do u guys think?  I make the right choice?  Dumb question I know but I am typically not a fan of digital so I am just looking for peace of mind I guess.

Fail rates on Nintendo consoles aren't that bad so I wouldn't be worried about that. Plus, you own the greatest game of all time, Zelda II, which automatically prevents your console from ever breaking ever. Ever.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

Can't argue with that logic lol.

If you intend on playing those games, which it looks like it, then yes you made a good choice :p

Well unless you're a serious collector, then yea, nothing wrong with getting all these games digitally.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Seriously, though, you should be fine. I bought my Wii U "used" from GameStop in 2013 (meaning the kids who bought it played it once) and I've had zero problems. Like was said before, unless you're a big Zelda collector like I am, it doesn't matter. Hell, I'm a big Zelda collector and I own a bunch of digital copies.

If all you care about is preservation, you can just pirate those games. There's nothing to convince you. Yes, if the literal worse case scenario happens and your system dies (and it will) decades into the future when Nintendo is long gone, then you lost those games and you're basically fucked.

But those games will be available either for free (legally) or for cents by the time that happens, and they will all be available in multiple forms by that time because they will be historical pieces like old Mickey Mouse cartoons.

Looks like a good purchase to me

You went with price and convenience over physical? You're a madman!

If Nintendo for some reason or another goes under or moves away from gaming... Roms and Emulators will still exist.

i ended up regretting most of my digital purchases on my systems last gen. With that said those games are expensive to buy physical and this is by far the cheapest way to legally play them. I can't help you if you feel uneasy about not being able to play the games, it will probably happen someday, but you get to play them for a long time for cheap in the meantime.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X
