Funny extension to exhibit A. Nvidia demanded royalties from the Xbox 360 because Microsoft wanted backwards compatibility. I imagine that Microsoft got pretty mad after that but in the next generation Microsoft released DX12 to spite Nvidia because Microsoft somewhat resented Nvidia in the past and they weren't going to make the same mistake again going all buddy-buddy with them ...

Not even Apple wants to deal with Nvidia! Practically every major ISVs don't like Nvidia very much. It just goes to show you how shitty of part supplier Nvidia really is ...

Nvidia would want to be a part supplier at least to show their IP dominance and monopoly but they can't since not many ISVs like their attitude ...

Their mobile products aren't exactly doing so hot since they demanded that Qualcomm pay them 352 million dollars cause of the losses by competing against them LOL ... (Consoles were low margin yet they happily entered the mobile space. Pathetically hypocritical if you ask me. )

It seems like a pretty transparent case of sour grapes when Nintendo, SCE and MS went with AMD for their GPUs; what else were they supposed to say?

Apple flip flops between AMD and Nvidia for their discreet GPU models. It would be a bit maddenlng if it weren't for the fact that driver support is not an issue as they function the same under OSX; it really just comes down to a price/performance prospect when it comes to OEM bids. The consumer pays the same regardless, so it really only effects Apple's bottom line per unit.

What's interesting is that discrete GPUs are only an option with premium priced models; I wouldn't be surprised if these comprised less than half of the hardware units sold.

Nintendo was ALWAYS with AMD (known as ArtX back in the days before being acquired by ATi) since the Gamecube days so they never really switched ...

For their Mac Pro line, Apple hasn't used an Nvidia GPU in over half a decade and the same goes for the MacBook Air. None of Apple's current line up uses Nvidia and none of them feature the latest Nvidia Maxwell GPU architecture!

Apple is willing to pay for performance as long as it makes sense. Bottom line is not all Apple cares about since even they use Intel CPUs so even they think cheaper is not always better for quality ...

Isnt the reason why Apple uses AMD because the GPUs do the sort of compute work they need in their OS and programs, better than nvidia gpus?

Apple dont look at graphics cards as "just" gameing devices, where performance/watt is all that matters.

They care about compute performance because unlike most they controll their software ecosystem and have software that uses these features.

AMD is certainly much better than Nvidia when it comes to OpenCL support but I don't think that's the reason why Apple sticks with AMD anymore ...

Apple sticks with AMD because they are much easier to control than Nvidia, it's probably the same reason why relevant console manufacturers are exclusively AMD ...

Apple doesn't want anybody controlling it's ecosystem similar to the others ...

Is that a fancy way of saying "its not fun to work with nvidia" ?

Even apple dont want to do it anymore?

I'm kind of thinking MS isn't ready to release the next version of the Xbox One (meaning upgraded performance) If I had to guess It's the PS4.5 and the NX. We'll probably only see an Xbox Slim this year. That's just how I feel at the moment. We'll probably know a lot more once E3 comes in a couple months.

I agree. They already were not really ready for Xbox one (while they had launched their predecessor ~1 year earlier than Sony).

I don't even think we'll see a xbox slim this year. This gen they are really timid with their hardware and not forward thinking like they were when they released X360.

They should have pushed their Window store way earlier IMO because they can't follow Sony on the VR new market, not before Xbox one successor anyways.

To put it simply yes and it's true that Apple don't want to work with Nvidia for much longer but they especially don't want to be at the mercy of CUDA ...

Lol they were obviously talking about the NX.
"Semi-custom" the PS4 APU is full-custom nice try
That agenda, no one is talking about new PS/XB consoles seriously it was a joke lol why are some people even taking this seriously.
Even if a PS4k came out it would be disastrous for their competitors because of SCE's superior brand image, engineering, and development experience.

DreamCast 2 Confirmed, Sega, is back in the fight.

I get the irony, but that would be so much awesomeness that I can't handle with my bare happiness.
