Forums - Gaming - Should I get Dark Souls 1/2 before 3?

Shouldn't be a real problem, all the souls games so far can easily be enjoyed without any prior knowledge of the goings on in the others. There are certain references to the other games to be sure, but by and large they're only found in item descriptions which you can happily skip over and not miss anything, sometimes bosses hearken back to bosses in other games of the franchise (Seath the scaleless actually refers to a boss from the king's field games for example), but in all I never felt the continuity in the games was so strong that they needed to be experienced in order to enjoy the games.

That's not to say you wouldn't appreciate them on a deeper level with prior experience of course. If you really get into the lore and the subtle world building at the core of the souls games then it can be a very enriching experience, but if that doesn't interest you then I'd say just jump into the third and if you enjoy it maybe try the others.

get bloodborne!!!!!

never played a souls game, but i might after playing bloodborne and loving it. in fact i JUST bought the bloodborne DLC (The Old Hunters)

Have an xbox one no ps4, if it came to PC I'd get it.

So what I'm getting out of this is that I can get 3 without playing the first 2 without having to worry about story or anything but the first 2 are still great games (1 is better than 2). Is that right?

I have DS1 and DS2:Scholar of the First Sin, but haven't played a Souls Game since Demon's Souls. Think it's going to pass me by completely as it's difficult to justify going back to the PS3 to play DS1 when I have so many other, newer, PS4 and Vita games to try. Probably won't get DS3 unless it's on sale. Still need to work up the nerve to start Bloodbourne.

If you play DS3 or BB first the older ones may feel too dated or easy. Either start with DS1 or Demons souls imo but w/e do what you want

Sadly can't play demon souls :/

I just started on DS 1. I've been craving to try DS ever since Bloodborne came out, so I decided to start with that. I can only recommend it.

The only thing dated about DS1 and DS2 would be the graphics, and really not by much.  The gameplay still holds up and shouldn't be too different from what gets released in a week.

Also, the first Dark Souls will definitely not feel too easy. It's considerably less forgiving than DS2 and Bloodborne.

Yeah I've heard that 2 was a lot easier than 1

I wouldn't say a lot.  And there are definitely bosses in DS2 that will make you cry, but overall, DS1 is just more menacing, I think.
