Forums - Sony - MCV: PSVR Could Become The 'Must Have' Christmas Gift Of 2016

Personally I do not see the PSVR selling Kinect numbers its first year. That price point is definitely not impulse by level. Also what is the killer app for the PSVR. Currently there isn't any must have game from my perspective.

 Battlezone, RIGS, Golem.

I don't have a VR capable PC, so things like Job Simulator while not a killer app totally look interesting to me.

Not to mention 360 video content alone.

I'm not sure of the numbers, but I'm pretty positive by Christmas PSVR will be in SOLD OUT status.

I think Sony would rather NOT have a supply shortage at launch, although it brings hype, they want to sell as many of these in the first year as possible.

That's why I think they delayed it, they want the largest initial shipment as possible and the most complete games as possible at launch.

They need it to be in as many hands as possible at launch, with a ton is variety in titles, to continue a positive "word of mouth" buzz to overcome the negitive buzz the competition is spreading via the internet.

There are quite a few companies you can hire now to spread negative/positive info via social media, based on the amount of unfactual and negivitve responses and posts out there, it seems the info war is in full swing.

I agree that there are some interesting looking and sounding games and I do have money set aside to pull the trigger once the device hits the market.  My thing is that prices once you add the required move controllers and camera is still more than the price of a launch PS4 and price does mean a lot to console buyers.  The good thing is Sony install base but the real test would be will there be demo units to sell the experience.  Without that, I cannot see the PSVR after you get the initial first buyes to keep a decent pace.

The steep price is defiantly an issue beyond early adopters. But I think the tech is that cool and solid that it will carry itself once people try it either as demos at the store or in early adopters homes.

This whole nonsense about a ps4k is hurting the curve Sony was batting on though, scaring people to not pull tell trigger. I think Sony needs to get out in front of this rumor and tell everyone exactly what's going on.

On the psvr note, GameSpot has new article...

Sony Computer Entertainment executive vice president Masayasu Ito told Nikkei that, in wake of the boosted sales projections, Sony found itself unable to make enough headsets to meet the projected demand and stay in line with the initial release window. Therefore, Sony pushed the date back to October, according to a translation of the report from GI.biz.

Ito did not divulge any information about the updated PlayStation VR sales projections. However, Nikkei reported, citing an unspecified source, that Sony is now expecting to ship 1-2 million headsets by the end of the calendar year. It wasn't mentioned what the original forecast was.

No dubt about it, VR is going to be huge, and will only continue to get bigger and bigger for the next decade and beyond. VR is a complete shift in the way we live our lives. Once the billions get their hands on this, they will understand. This is not just games, VR is going to change the way we do everything. This will change things more than smartphones changed the way we worked, learned, and comunicated.

For those saying $400 - $800 is to much for these VR devices, just look at what kids/relitives/partners are gifting now days. $400 - $1000 tablets, smartphones, and laptops are the new norm. A $400 VR device is going to be the cheap option for a lot of people, and an $800 PS4K + PSVR will be an easy choice for many as well.

Once people see Vive, Oculus, or PSVR, price is going to be a very small factor, because, like I said, this changes everything.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Every year expensive electronics are bought for Christmas presents (home consoles, TV, laptops/pc/ipads, smartphones etc..)

So that kind of price isn't a factor whatsoever. It's just that you'll need a PS4 to go with it that's all.
