I wouldn't be surprised if Hardcore Mode is locked to only using that particular amiibo.  It's not the first time Nintendo locked out modes in a game that requires amiibos (ie. Mario Party 10).  Nintendo is actually stupid.

No it isn't. The Falco Amiibo allows faster unlock, but you can unlock it through Normal Mode iirc. Not sure about the 'classic' ship though.

You guys are a bunch of whinny little girls. I can't wait until the game comes out and everyone realizes you can unlock that mode by completing the game in normal (the falco amiibo being a faster way to unlock it).

Definitely will do that, but I wonder if the guy in the video playing the game can answer the question regarding the hardcore difficulty.
