Learn to read bruhh, I'm not debating how many exclusives games those DS models got. I'm debating why you're acting like Sony would be worse in this situation when 1. they haven't and no rumour suggest they will fragment userbase 2. why would Sony be worse for the same thing Nintendo did?

My ONLY real concern is decreased optimisation for existing PS4s.

Though I'd much prefer this to just be a slim PS4 and save all that extra hardware for the PS5. But if this is to keep Sony's momentum against XB2 and NX then so be it.

processing power doesn't determine the costs

die size (wafer price), yield and process price determines the cost of a chip

generally a faster chip has more transistors and therefore a bigger die size (at the same production process) and often lower yields, so it's more expensive per chip

but the PS4 APU (combination of CPU and GPU) is made in 28nm and 348mm² in size - with the new architectures they coud make a <300mm² die in 14/16nm(finfet) which costs the same or less per chip, but is a lot more powerful, as lots more transistors fit into 300mm² in the 14/16nm process than into 348mm² in 28nm

if Sony offers a PS4K they could probably build it at the same price as the PS4 now, but I think they would sell it at a larger profit (starting price $399) while fading out PS4s with the current price or at a small discount

Sony would be worse if they do indeed make a PS4.5, who the hell cares about some stupid DSI and N3DS exclusive games/Content ( And that't the only thing Nintendo has done which can be compared to what Sony is going to do ) but everyone cares about being able to play games at 4K and a higher framerate. The current PS4's will also start to perform worse considering how lazy developers are nowadays. That is the definition of fragmentation.

PS4K is not gonna splinter userbases like Nintendo by having exclusive games, yet Sony is worse, baffles the logic.
