Gamecube made Nintendo money unlike the Wii U route which they seem to be taking. And Nintendo didn't get much third party support after a few years. People are going to buy a Nintendo System based on their first party lineup thats it. Im basing a lot of assumption based on Nintendo moves. Nintendo seems to not understand they will never be successful again if they keep this up. Gamecube worked out great for them money wise. Nintendo Wii U.... not so much.

Also it is heavily rumoured (just like the controller) the specs of NX will be on par with xbox one and ps4. What is the point if no third party developer is going to support it for long? Most people want playstation and xbox one for third party games because that is where their friends game on and the console they already bought. Not to mention Nintendo doesn't get along with third party developers.

Except Wii U has made money as well which makes that point null and void, ironic that the non traditional routes have made them more money than the traditional route that you're calling for. Nintendo understands that this is the only route they can take to be successful it's you who doesn't understand, the traditional route suits bigger companies like MS and Sony far more than a dedicated gaming company, like in any sports the is more than one way to succeed if you can't play attacking football like Barcelona you can be strategic like Athletical Madrid, if the competition has a big advantage with one strategy you use another approach.

Third parties in the east get along fine with Nintendo and because MS have no presence there and the console market is to small to support only one platform they'd need another platform to release games on that's why NX would be X1 power. You don't get that the market is always moving to the point that developers have to change approach as well, before HD developers mainly stuck to one platform as it was cheaper and easier then development costs spike which is why the went multiplatform, these costs keep going up and the market keeps changing.

Wii u isn't making money for Nintendo. That is why Nintendo is leaving this console generation fast as possible. Sorry, but I hate to inform you on this. Japanese developers are not doing shit for Nintendo's console because they are going to mobile side of things. Look how badly most 3rd party Japanese games sell. Thats why we are seeing less and less Japanese games. Sorry, but Nintendo dugged it's grave yet again.

The only problem is unlike the GC and the Wii U, Nintendo won't have those handheld sales to subsidize their income, since the NX is rumored to be a combo of the two markets.  So, if the NX is not a success, where will Nintendo be making its money?

Personally, I don't see an underpowered Wii U 2, only now with a seemingly worse controller, being a big success.  Sure, it seems the controller may have the ability to go mobile, unlike the Wii U, but its lack of physical buttons is going to be a big turn off to core fans, the type of customer that are mostly left in the console gaming market.

Handheld is the most sure fired success Nintendo will have with NX the's no competition now, whether it's a hybrid or separate SKUs the handheld side of things will carry the NX for the first number of years. This is why the concept of NX being both home and portable is even being speculated as a forgone conclusion as they can take a risk in the handheld market as no one is there now to challenge them, it's one reason I don't see NX failing at all as the concept is indicated to that where someone doesn't need to buy both devices only one and due to portable alone that's a good 20m units in japan already.

Wii U is making money and has been for a while that's not even debatable right now, the high attach rate alone rakes in a lot of money.

Funny because japanese developers have made the 3DS the top reigning platform in Japan.

hope it isn't true. but it does resemble the patent with the shoulder buttons with that oval shape. still ain't good for me, visually.

Keyword is CONSOLE and no. Nintendo lost a lot of money with r&d and everything.

Funny how none of the leaks mention a stylus.

It's almost certainly a capactive screen like most smartphones/tablets, not resistive like the DS/Wii U are.

Which is funny, given Nintendo's insistance on the superiority of resistive.
