Nah, it was Iwata

Worded poorly. What I mean is that the supposed deny of the Nikkei rumor about ceasing Wii U production didn't come from Kimishima, but a Nintendo spokeperson.

Ah ok, now I understand.

Well, I guess we could argue as to whether it's important that it wasn't Kimishima who said this. To be fair, he hasn't really said much of anything since becoming head of Nintendo. I think all will be answered at the upcoming financial briefing next month.

Dont act like this is a Nintendo thing, all, major companies do it. Sony, Microsoft, Apple, Google, Samsung, they all deny rumors until they want to announce them.

He's not acting like it is a Nintendo thing. He's letting you know that the so-called saint savior or gaming, worshipped as godly under Yamauchi's watch, isn't any better than most other gaming company. Unlike what most hardcore Nintendo fans will want you to belive.

Haha, who says that about Nintendo? Usually Ninten is getting flack from people both Ninten-fans and non-fans. I think who better fits that image these days is Sony. Which hardcore Nitnen fans have you been listening to? : P

At this point in time, I don't really know what to believe.

Either way, hopefully they don't cease production yet, unless the NX can also play Wii U games so then people wouldn't need the Wii U.

I'm still betting they cease production this year. Nintendo has made denials like this in the past only for them to come to fruition, and this feels like it was just something they didn't want anyone knowing yet. I don't think a Japanese newspaper would just make up a lie. All companies make statements like this when something is found out that they didn't want being found out. I guess we will see between next month and E3.

But why would Nintendo say anything at all?

To quell fears that the WiiU is going to have a longer life cycle then it probably realistically will have.

Not addressing this info is just going to allow it to continue to spread. Even if true its the last thing they will want cause it will negatively hurt sales when ppl start to realise that there isn't much life to it outside of this year, the possible NX release year

Hurt sales how? Isn't essentially the Wii U out of stock in Japan and anyone who cares enough to read into this already mostly believe NX will be out this year anyways? Saying anything really only buys them three months tops if the NX IS coming out this year. There would seem to be VERY little point.

The fact that nintendo denies it pretty much confirms it will happen.

First of all, have you seen how many times they've responded to Nikkei's correct reports, denying them only to confirm them a few weeks/months later?
At least 4 times, so that question is moot as a counter point.

As for why, I thought you would know the answer to that as I believe we've discussed it before. The same reason they're not saying that they're releasing a new console this year, and why Sony denied that their PS4 conference was about PS4 just days before it happened, etc.
They don't want a negative impact on sales until the day arrives that they've decided to make the announcement. On top of that this has gotten a lot of fans worried, and there were a lot of sighs ofd relief when Nintendo denied this.

The WiiU appears to be back in stock again in Japan (sold 9k+ last week), but it was never out of stock, just low. They're still going to produce more WiiU's throughout the year, and this was only an issue in Japan.
And you can say most people believe NX will be out this year but the truth is many people still think it will be out in 2017, or even 2018.

And whether they stop producing Wii Us this year wouldn't change when they release NX. That connection is being made through pure speculation.

Just look at the youtube sections on videos about this.

And how big is that "Many people", do you know it? Are you maybe taking the 5% and making it look like is the 95%?

It makes people think (who weren't already thinking it) that NX will come out sooner rather than later. They don't want that. Sony didn't want that just days before they announced PS4.

It's very common to see less informed people take Nintendo's comments for face value.

But the people who will actually go out and buy the Wii U and not wait until E3 will probably not change. Star Fox Zero will not make it to NX, and that's the only reall game between now and then.

Exactly, it's going to be so negligible it honestly isn't worth mentioning one way or another. The people who hear these rumors have also heard the other billion rumors circulating about the NX. Honestly anyone who is on the fence is going to wait till E3 anyways.
