First of all, have you seen how many times they've responded to Nikkei's correct reports, denying them only to confirm them a few weeks/months later? At least 4 times, so that question is moot as a counter point.
As for why, I thought you would know the answer to that as I believe we've discussed it before. The same reason they're not saying that they're releasing a new console this year, and why Sony denied that their PS4 conference was about PS4 just days before it happened, etc. They don't want a negative impact on sales until the day arrives that they've decided to make the announcement. On top of that this has gotten a lot of fans worried, and there were a lot of sighs ofd relief when Nintendo denied this.
The WiiU appears to be back in stock again in Japan (sold 9k+ last week), but it was never out of stock, just low. They're still going to produce more WiiU's throughout the year, and this was only an issue in Japan. And you can say most people believe NX will be out this year but the truth is many people still think it will be out in 2017, or even 2018. Just look at the youtube sections on videos about this.

And how big is that "Many people", do you know it? Are you maybe taking the 5% and making it look like is the 95%?

Exactly, it's going to be so negligible it honestly isn't worth mentioning one way or another. The people who hear these rumors have also heard the other billion rumors circulating about the NX. Honestly anyone who is on the fence is going to wait till E3 anyways.
