Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo denies Wii U ceasing production this year

Why would it stop someone from getting a Wii U? Pikmin 3 is a 30$ game now,it's the perfect time to jump in.

Gamers are weird...

Because price-cuts.

I still prefer to wait and see.
It´s not the kind of thing that will ruin the life of anyone who already has a WiiU after all...

Any pricecut on the Wii U seems very unlikely. It's barely selling anyway so why lose extra money.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

If someone had to choose between only being able to play one of these pairs in the next 2 years: Pikmin 3 ($20) & Zelda U (720p, 30fps) versus Pikmin 4 ($50-60) & Zelda NX (1080p, 60fps), I think many would probably go for the later selection. Many peeps would see it as reductive to spend $200 on a Wii U now when at the end of the year Nintendo will release a console which they will most probably want more. Some people would happily puchase the Wii U and NX in the same year but I think for most, one hardware purchase will delay the other by a notable amount of time.

Also they didnt deny it, they just said they were making them next quarter and beyond, that does not rule out them stopping before the end of the year.

I'm going to trust Nikkei on this one. Nikkei actually tries to tell the truth, Nintendo just lie most of the time to save face.

I think it's absolutely crazy that some people just deny Nintendo's denial.

Even if it was true, you have no way to know if it is or isn't. It's absolutely crazy to go in this world where you believe nothing. They said it. We have to assume it's true. That's just how it is. We can't assume a lie when we got no proof whatsoever.

Maybe they're stopping production of the current model only like they did to wii in 2012.

A hardware revision still makes sense since their next console probably won't be BC with wii u.

So, they did not deny that they'll continue production in 2017?

Hey guys, remember when the Wall Street Journal said that Nintendo was going to make a live-action Zelda series on Netflix and then Iwata denied it and then it never happened?

Just because there are a few examples of Nintendo denying reports that turned out to be true does not mean it's always the case.
