You expect their board of directors to call for an emergency meeting as soon as MS makes an announcement and reach a definite decision within one day? Because that's when the answer was given. This is something they'll likely want to discuss and investigate thoroughly before making any final decision that any of their representatives can make definitive public announcememnts for.

Yeah except the anwser they gave on Twitter would have taken alot longer then "Sure will cross-play with Xbox". You can tell they dont want to, instead they would rather brag about how they have been doing cross -play for years. Whats there to investigate? Its not rocket science.

A simple Yes or No from Sony.

Sony told them ages ago that they were up for cross-play and they haven't changed that stance in all the years MS didn't want anything to do with it. Frankly, sony doesn't need to answer a pr stunt. Cross-play will be up to the publisher/developer on each game if it's implemented or not since both sony and ms have agreed to it openly already.

The ps4 already has a huge and active community but adding in the xboxers would be good. It won't be struggling for players for a few years but at least when that time comes the added xbox players will mean it's not an issue.

No one has the authority to say yes or no until a decision has been made.
What there is to discuss and investigate is pros vs cons, and how they would go about doing this.

They clearly have issues with doing this with MS. Otherwise they would be doing this straight away.

Its not hard to say yes.

Sony's board of directors don't wake up at 5AM with their phones ringing off the hook and call for an emergency board meeting and send a private plane to pick up Shuhei Yoshida who was in the US at the time as soon as MS make an announcement.

It's hard to say yes when you don't have the authority to do so.
Microsoft didn't decide this on a whim either. They've been opposed to the idea for over a decade, and surely had thorough discussions about it before making the final decision. But you expect Sony to make promises within 24 hours, without even sitting down to discuss it.
They will (or already have) start discussing it when they have time to get to it. It's not an emergency that takes precedence over their other planned business meetings.

Its been weeks now and we still dont have an honest anwser from Sony.

Sony dont have to do anything, all they have to say is we are all for cross-play with Xbox. And let the developers do there thing.

Its honestly not that hard to see. Your clearly on one side here and im guessing good guy Sony will never go agaisnt the players with Bad boy Microsoft.

Sony don't have to come out and say yes we will do it for rocket league in particular because they've never been against it in the past and said so long before Microsoft ever did.  Microsoft are late to the party so they can't be the good guy.

The only thing Sony need to do is discuss it privately with the RL devs.  there is no onus to conduct all business in the open especially when no decisions have been made.

That you were expecting a definitive decision after a day is unresonable, is the point I was making. But that (the interview) was a question directed at a Sony rep, so he had to answer the best he could. This announcement from Microsoft isn't a question directed at Sony, because they didn't even mention Sony in it at all. But you expect Sony to not only answer a statement that wasn't posed as a question or directed at them, but that they should also specifically mention Xbox, when MS didn't mention Playstation?
If Phil Spencer only wanted to open a dialogue about this, he wouldn't have been vague about it. And he could have taken the discussion directly to Sony instead of mentioning it in public before Sony are ready to reply. I don't know how long it would take to reach a decision about this. Aside from the technical discussions that need to be held, they also need to consider whether or not they would want to.  And given the fact that they are in no rush about this, it's anyone's guess when, if at all, they would make an announcement about this. Unless Microsoft straight up asks them, that is.
But they can't really make an announcement and say "Hey everyone. We would like to announce that we are open to cross platform gaming... as we've always been." Likewise, if they decide they don't want to do it, they would not want to make a public statement about that either.
So the way I see it is we will find out by seeing if there are any such games in the near future, like Rocket League.

As for good guy vs badguy, you make entire topics about that subject, so you would know better than anyone.
I'm just telling you this from a business standpoint. Not good guy or badguy.

MS stated cross-play, Sony are normally up MS's @$$ on pretty much most PR they do yet this one they have kept rather quiet about and even a rep did nothing but brag about the past. It’s funny because i honestly believe when Sony are in trouble with the PS3 they were doing this to justify there console, whereas now there a top selling console where they most likely only care for themselves now. The silence and uneducated answer from a Sony's Rep is your clear answer to weather Sony want to do Cross-Play with Xbox. There’s no waiting, there’s no need to think, and it’s rather you’re in or you’re out here. Like i said before, Sony are always jumping on Xbox any chance they get with pettier things yet they seem rather quiet about cross-play when it seems to benefit another platform.

No Idea what you’re talking about here nor do I know where your trying to go with that statment. I post opinions and facts, if you don’t like my opinions or facts then I suggest avoiding my articles completely. I own all consoles, in fact I finished playing Journey Remastered on PS4 1 hour ago. I just open my eyes and not let the market win my hand. In other words I am not a sell-out.

I love games, not plastic boxes and hype. Hence why i game on Steam 90% of the time.

What sony's stance on cross-play? The answer is in their actions on it. Last time I checked, FFXIV ARR can be cross-played between PC, PS3 and PS4. That should answer any question about cross-play. The real question you should be asking is if MS will keep supporting cross-play after a few games.

So your comparing Cross-Play with a non competitive platform to a competitive platform? lol okay...

So I'm guessing a simple form of cross play? No messages, players met, report, cross chat or anything. The only thing standing in the way is both MS and Sony willing to have their users PSN / XBL IDs visible to the other players?
How does it work with PC?
