So Microsoft lied, first they said 900p then 1080p

I think it's a bit early to say they lied. The build DF played wasn't necessarily the final one, and as they noted, their findings contradict what Remedy say (in the technical paper DF mentioned) is their output target. And honestly, i wouldn't be surprised if the game did end up being 900p/1080p at launch. Maybe they really have struggled to hit their visual and performance targets, but as i mentioned earlier in the thread, it seems odd they'd have so many other compromises on-top of such a significant resolution cut.

They said they've contacted Remedy about it, so we'll likely know the truth sooner rather than later.

They mention (in the video) its named something like "final build" and that they assume its the version that will be released.

So... yeah...

Still does it even matter?

I watch the videos of it and think thats a good looking game. I dont go "yep this is 720, wont buy".

I noticed this also... it's like they realise that people can't judge by themselves and only look for a number so they "know" whether a game is good or bad... they should continue to point these things really.

(All aboard the unnecessarily long but potentially mildy interest reply train, choo choo!)

I agree with what you wrote and I have similar experiences switching from 60fps to 30fps etc. But I don't know if it's relevant to what I wrote though. In this case we see visually impressive gameplay clips and cutscenes with lots of stuff happening on screen. I don't think I've seen a game like it before. If I was playing it and enjoying it, I don't think the image would actually blur in my eyes if someone was to tell me hey it's 720p resolution 😂

What I mean is, some here seem to be unwilling to try the game themselves to see it as a whole and see how they like it. Just because someone told them a number. It's sad. I'm not saying anyone should be able to spot the resolution with their naked eye. What you wrote though is all the more reason to stop being hysterical over pixels or frame rates..the brain adjusts while playing 😋 Even Max Payne looked gorgeous once heh.

We already lied about the exclusivity of the game for over 3 years, even after knowing that both versions were being developed parallely.

Why stop there? Lets say its 1080p @60 fps. Either way, nobody has the balls to sue us for false advertisement.

Hahaha (lights up cigar with a hundred)

Come on now. Remedy said the PC version started much later. Also Digital Foundry as far as I can tell only played an older build at Remedy. The same build I saw in London. I believe it was only in January that Remedy confirmed they now had the game running at 1080p 30fps native with the extra rev time they had pushing the game back from last holiday release to April. I'm not even going to comment on the exclusive thing.

Well, this game had never been listed in Amazon top100, and this news will not help X1 version sales..

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I meant the power gap. Uncharted 4 is a much better looking game that is a full 1080p and runs better.

I don't want turn this into a war. I haven't seen Uncharted 4 running natively as I have Quantum Break in London yesterday. But judging from YouTube videos, Uncharted is not a much better looking game. For a start the effects in Quantum Break are unmatched in consoles. And the amount of particles being thrown around is ludicrous.

They do, but they also state their output will be 1080p. There are several contradictions here, so considering that, i think it's best to hold off on burning MS/Remedy to the ground until we have proper confirmation.

And yes, as someone who cares about IQ it does matter to me (or at least it would if i wasn't already getting the W10 version, but alas my interest in console tech drags me to this thread anyway :p). It might still be a nice looking game, but i don't see a problem with someone being disappointed if it doesn't hit its technical targets. There's a big difference between "this is bad" and "i was expecting more". I wouldn't not buy it over something like this though, no. I might have expected 10 pieces of cake, but i'm alright with 9

"Also Digital Foundry as far as I can tell only played an older build at Remedy."

Said this before before but... in the video Digital foundry, mention it was named "final build" (or something simular), so they assumed it was the release build (they state so in the video).

Chances are very high its the final version.

720p certainly isn't a deal breaker for me, especially when you consider the assets and effects look better than most games. But it certainly does seem odd to see 720p struggling a bit to maintain 30 fps.

Remedy has said this is a 1080p game, so lets see if they confirm whether it is or not.

I don't know why people are surprised, as I've said before, sub-900p Xbox One games and sub-1080p PS4 games aren't going anywhere, we saw this last year with Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefield Hardline, and we will continue to see it. There will always be devs who choose to prioritize other graphical elements over resolution.

To add onto the above post, not to mention Alan Wake had a goofy low res compared to other 360 games and yet it was gorgeous.
