I'm just expressing my opinion, i did the same thing when Xbox, announced the upgradable thing (the difference is that Xbox, was a Official announcement, and Playstation, is just a Rumor from a un-reliable source), i just want to show that i'm not a Fanboy, and that this Bullshit, would be the one that will piss me the most, about the Console gaming.

It wont break the momentum since it will still be called PS4. They wont say on the advertisement, that it is new with more raw power; because that would be stupid. They will just announce it is (maybe) a Slim version of the PS4, and will continue to make the same advertisement as before, nothing will change. People will continue to see PS4 everywhere, just what it is under the hood what will change.
PS 4 slim is fine with minor upgrades. It happens, as I think XBOX One would release an upgrade as well.
But it would be a disservice to the loyal Sony fans especially buying the old version in a week, then all of a sudden a newly upgraded version came in.
My prediction is they release slim version with a couple additional upgrades that will only affect media and not gaming. I am predicting the following upgrades
HDMI 1.4 to HDMI 2.0a
Upgraded blu-ray drive to support 4K Ultra HD discs
Wifi 802.11N to 802.11AC
4k upscaling chip to upscale none native 4K media to 4K
All stuff they already have available in there blu-ray players or planning to in the near future, therefore their very little additional R&D costs to add to PS4.
Better be a rumor. Between this and spencer saying he wants console upgrades for the xbone it seems like they're determined to undermine the very concept of the console.
Upgrades are for PCs... You're not supposed to have to keep buying new models with a console, as that really renders them pointless.

Yes, i agree that will be like this, just minor changes like the PS3 Slim, and Super Slim.
a 4K PS4, would cost more than 1000US$ for the consumer, and would piss off fans and developers.
