Forums - Nintendo - "Alleged" photo of NX controller "leaked": We might as well discuss this now

To be honest this basically is just the Wii U Game Pad with a different shape.

I'm assuming Nintendo can't possibly dumb enough to not have some option for physical buttons though (I supposed with Nintendo you never know).

I'm not sure "dumb enough" is the right word, but I will say that when Nintendo wanted to do something different, they don't go halfway. If the new thing is to not have any buttons, there simply won't be any buttons (granted a pro controller or third party controlers may have them) at least in the box when you buy it.

If this is the system it also likely points to another underpowered console. That controller is not going to be cheap.

If they're going button less I think it points more to a future of Nintendo being smartphone-centric and focusing on those types of games moreso.

The Nikkei report of the NX using Android or being able to run Android apps would make more sense too, they could probably put a moderate cheap chip inside the controller that allows it to run smartphone apps independant of the "base" system.

It looks like a fake.

I don't want that future. Nobody does. Except Pachter.

Well I haven't really wanted what Nintendo's dubbed the "future" for a while, so we're probably not the chief focus for Nintendo.

This, if true, is probably Nintendo desperately hoping to get back today's modern kids who are hooked on smartphone games.

If they slapped a cheap iPhone 5/Samsung Galaxy S5 chip into a controller like this for a few bucks, it could run Android apps and probably DS and VC games too.

Sell that for $99 ... suddenly maybe some of these parents buy this NX controller at least.

I don't like it for my personal tastes, but I can see the logic behind it.

Whats there to discuss but the fact that its yet another hoax?

True, give it more of the 3ds sliders for the analog sticks, and you don't have to worry about breaking it when carrying it around in your pocket. Remove the buttons for the same reason (being confortable when carrying it in a pocket). Suddenly, Nintendo portables are at schools again.

This.

The reason to have a huge gamepad thats almost fully touchscreen, is to allow mobile games/apps ect on it, and make it feel natural on it.

Also I could imagine it works well as a virtual keyboard for typeing.

that controller looks unimaginably terrible. what fans and gamers want from Nintendo is a TRADITIONAL controller. no one likes the Wii U Gamepad that much to begin with and then its also expensive.... I mean the Gamepad WORKS technically well but its big and unnecessary (a screen on a controller forcing people to look down is just not 'comfortable' really and sort of contradicts the ease and logic of a well designed controller in terms of button placement anyway).

I don't believe Nintendo would ignore both their fanbase and gamers in general so there's no way this controller is real. Because on its own who would it be targeting?

if its simply a new handheld alone maybe that could be SOMEWHAT okay, but I don't buy that its the controller or going to be compatible to be the home console's control

Don't think that would fit into a pocket, but neither do most tablets. Probably meant to be carried around in a bag.

When I saw this earlier I was wondering... if Nintendo wants a gamepad with a screen on it, wouldn't it be easier to make something like this? Anyone has a smartphone after all.
