I just don't understand what conclusion we're supposed to draw from this. That the Wii U is the best current gen console? That it's poor sales are unwarranted? That Meta scores are flawed?

"It is clear that Sony has run away with the “win” in the current video game console generation in terms of raw console sales numbers, but as it turns out, selling the most systems doesn’t equate to having the most — or the best — exclusive games." - the writter.

= My conclusion : exclusives dont sell consoles (he never writes this though)

It reads like the author wants you to go buy a nintendo console, because hes sad his favorite console isnt selling better.

Throw in abit of cherry picking, and favorable terms for what games count and...

"So which system wins the exclusive games contest? Wii U by a landslide. " - the writter.

Thats basically it, he doesnt end with any real conclusion to the peice.

These are my thoughts as well. I think people sometimes tend to overrate how much the general gaming audience cares about exclusives.

This. It would be more respectable if the writer and others cause this aint the first or last of this Wii U has better exclusives "argument" if they just say I like Ninty, Wii u not doing good, please buy Wii U.

Not that surprised considering Wii U is an exclusives machine first and foremost.

The WiiU is awesome. Many people just cant handle its sheer awesomeness. Only real gamers can handle owning it

I thought everyone already knew this. Yet the Wii U is still selling like trash. that's what is mind boggling...it has a lot of really good games but it seems like no one really wants it.

The problem is sheer numbers. Whether this analysis is true or not, Sony has made it seem like they are just pushing out a ton of high quality games. That is another reason why the HD remakes or updates are such a brilliant idea. Nintendo should be pushing this really hard. An easy way to fill in game gaps and it should not be too hard for them to remake these games. Expecially on the NX.

I don't know about anyone else but I can tell you my own opinion. Have a lot of exclusives that are rated high is great but when your missing all the muliplats your pretty much dead to me. It's like if Sony had all it's exslusives but no multiplats that just wouldn't work for me. So that's the first issue they need to fix as far as I'm concerened. Next up is the graphics. They need hardware that is on par with everyone else. If those two things were done I'd be gettinga  nintendo system without a doubt.

This list is just exclusives, if multiplat titles were included than it would look completely different and multiplats are what sell PS/XB.

Oh trust me I know. I was just stating that the Wii U indeed has some great games but yet....it is still an unwanted system. Heck like I said Nin usually pumps out lots of top rated exclusive games but it doesn't always equate to sells for the systems. I don't think there is anything that they can do for the Wii U. SMH....it shows how important 3rd party games are.

It comes down to system marketing.  The PlayStation 4 has been very well promoted.  The Wii U on the other hand is inconsistently bouncing back and forth between good marketing, mediocre marketing, and then no marketing.  2013 was almost complete radio silence until the notoriously awful late 2013 campaign.  Then silence again until the good MK8 campaign and then silence again until the modest efforts with Bayo 2 and Hyrule Warriors and the prolific but inconsistent quality push for Smash.  Then - you guessed it - almost complete silence until Splatoon.  Followed by...I think you get it.  Focusing advertising around exclusives sounds like a way to promote without torching mountains of money but Nintendo's execution means that they have never, ever built up sustained hype in the general buying public.  Yes, the informed buying public is knowledgeable enough but the general has to be told.  The majority of consumers don't frequent review sites and forums.

This is very true the marketing for the Wii U is HORRIBLE but I think it is more so the lack of 3rd party games plus marketing that is hurting the Wii U. Strangely enough the "top rated" of the top rated games are not the ones that make me want a Wii U. The games I want most are Pikmin, Hyrule Warriors and Pokken....and a personal Pokemon full console game not that crap that was pokemon colosseum. And a few remakes of games like Eternal Darkness as well lol....

Because its cherry picking. Take all the games that both PS4 and Xbox One share that Nintendo doesn't have. Suddenly the number of top quality of games to play on say, PS4 completely dwarfs the Wii U. Now before you argue that "third party games don't count" remember that most people choose between as PS4 or an Xbox One or a Wii U, which means while third party games make little difference for someone deciding between a PS4 and an Xbox One, for someone deciding between a PS4 and a Wii U? It makes a HUGE difference.

Why would I argue that 3rd party games don't count lol. I don't even own a Wii U....yet anyway. Not that Pokken is here there are 3 games on Wii U that I want. For the hardcore Nin fans the exclusives are what kept them buying Nin systems. But heck from what I have seen even the hardcore Nin fans don't even care for the Wii U. So this list is kind of pointless in a way IMO. Just to say what I said in another comment with someone else the lack of 3rd party games and poor marketing is what is hurting the Wii U the most.

Wii U has great games but they are far and few between. It's not uncommon to wait 3 months between notable releases. This is why I'm such an advocate for a unified platform from Nintendo.
