This is ass backwards. Sony and many devs have been trying for years to get MS to budge on cross play. This is not a jab to sony. *Shakes head. This is MS finally caving in.

I have arachnophobia and your .gif scares me so much :(

Muhahaha <---- evil laugh. I like creepy or spooky sigs. On a positive note, I'll be switching the gif out in a couple of days.

This is why "Forbes Contributors" are sometimes nothing more than bloggers with no more weight than someone posting on a forum.

Sony has allowed cross-platform play for years. There is no "dare". Microsoft is the one abolishing their own barriers after standing in the way of what developers have wanted for a long time.

I feel like Microsoft's attempt to create buzz and hype behind this idea is somewhat working. I don't know how Sony will respond to this, and I honestly don't know about the netcode implication and issues that will arise from it. They are behind now, and any idea can be good to pull them out of the ditch. However, will people still see the PS4 as the go-to console? Which consoles they'll buy ultimately? They do need more ideas, but I don't think they got a viable one yet.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Sony was thinking about this exact idea several years ago while the Xbox 360 dominated the market?

I seem to remember reading a few things that showed they had some interest in it last gen when they weren't the frontrunner.  From the perspective of the company "playing catch up" it is a great idea.  Sadly though, like MS last gen, Sony has no true incentive at the moment to say yes to it.

Yes... because once your friend has an Xbox you are gonna buy an expensive PC to play with him.

Nah its not a clever strategy, its a desperate one. Microsoft started on PC with their games division and they are going full circle back to it. This isn't by choice, it's by necessity.

I wonder if this is the same genius who wrote the article from last week: "MS is right, videogame disks are stupid." I will click on exactly neither article to find out.

Playstation players have been playing with PC players for years. Everyone was just waiting for MS to finally allow it on their side too.

They are years late. I don't understand why would anyone consider this "a good move against Sony" when they're just filling their huge lateness in this matter. It's only good PR because the writers of such articles don't think enough before writing it.

Has anyone played any cross platform games with PC on ps4, wiiU or 360?
How does it work with friend lists? Voice chat? Messages? Reporting / accountability?
I guess that's all up to the developer like in FF14 where you have your own FF14 service account.

Anyway no sense for MS inviting Sony, unless they want to put their 1st party games on ps4. Developers are the ones that drive cross platform play, unless MS is serious about opening up XBox Live and connecting to PSN all the way to cross platform party chat.
